OBITUARY
PHILBROOK—Geor-
gia (Elliott) Philbrook,
76, passed away Aug. 1,
2019.
She was the daughter
of George W. Elliott and
Leon (Withrow) Elliott.
She was
born in
Florence
June 18,
1943.
S h e
worked
for 38
years as
Georgia
office
Philbrook
manag-
er of the
Orcas
Island Middle School and
High School in Washing-
ton. She retired last year
and moved to Florence to
be close to relatives.
She is survived by her
ex-husband, Jerry Phil-
book; her daughter, Jodi
Luft (Tom); her son,
Jerry Philbrook III; her
brother, Vernon Elliott
(Marilyn); her twin sis-
ter, Nancy Flatley; her
sister, Barbara Rowland
(Lance); six grandchil-
dren, eight great-grand-
children and numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded
in death by her parents,
brothers Floyd and Rich-
ard Elliott and sister
Connie Elliott Bowles.
Alpha Cremation is in
charge of arrangements.
There will be a celebra-
tion of her life June 20,
2020 at the family farm
(Elliott’s Hilltop Acres),
06186 Canary Road,
Westlake, Ore.
It will be a potluck be-
ginning at 1 p.m. Anyone
who knew Georgia is in-
vited to attend.

• Hit-and-run accident
Florence Police arrest
hit-and-run suspect
On Aug. 6, at 1:23 p.m.,
Florence Police received a
report of a motor vehicle
accident (MVA) at High-
way 101 and 45th Street.
Upon arrival, the officer
observed the two vehicles
involved in the crash and
was told by witnesses that
the operator of the vehicle
that caused the accident
had run away on foot.
The operator of the sec-
ond vehicle was taken by
ambulance to Peace Har-
bor hospital to be treated
for injuries received from
the accident.
Officers have identified
the suspect who fled from
the accident as Jay Finders
and were unable to locate
Finders after searching the
area.
On Aug. 7, Finders was
escorted to the Florence
Police Department by two
acquaintances.
After interviewing Find-
ers, he was placed under
arrest, lodged in the Flor-
ence City jail and will be
transported to Lane Coun-
ty Adult Corrections.
Charges include: Fail-
ure to Perform Duties of
a Driver to injured per-
sons, which is a felony, and
Reckless Driving.
