OBITUARY
LaTOMME—Andrew
John LaTomme, Jr., 99,
of Florence, passed away
July 18, 2019.
Andy was born Jan. 9,
1920, in Patterson, N.J.
He delivered milk
throughout Bergen Coun-
ty, N.J., in the days of back
porch boxes, glass bottles
and mo-
tor truck
routes.
During
WWII, he
served in
the U.S.
Army Air
Corps as
Andrew
a staff ser-

geant and
C-47 crew
chief who was awarded
the Good Conduct Medal.
After the war he worked
as a machinist for Uniroy-
al, Inc’s research and de-
velopment section in New
Jersey and in Connecti-
cut.
Andy served as a volun-
teer fireman and officer in
the Waldwick, N.J., Vol-
unteer Fire Department
from 1951 to 1972. He
was an active member of
the Waldwick Method-
ist Church and later the
Presbyterian Church of
the Siuslaw, where he was
recognized as an Honor-
ary Life Member of the
Presbyterian Women for
his assistance to them.
A life-long supporter
of youth, Andy served
as a little league coach
and was an enthusias-
tic fan of Waldwick Jr-Sr
High School football and
wrestling. He gave over
30 years of service to the
Boy Scouts of America as
an Assistant Scoutmaster,
Roundtable Commission-
er and district and council
trainer.
He also served on the
staff of several Wood
Badge training cours-
es. For his dedication to
Scouting, he was awarded
the Brotherhood Honor
of the Order of the Ar-
row and the Silver Beaver
Award for distinguished
service to youth.
In 1990, Andy was in-
ducted into the Benevo-
lent and Protective Or-
der of Elks, Lodge #1858,
Florence, Ore. He was
known for his cheerful
and faithful service in a
variety of lodge programs
and to the Ladies of Elks.
His lodge brothers will
fondly remember him for
his prowess at the pool
table and for making the
motion that “all the bills
be paid” during their
weekly meetings.
In 2000, Lodge #1858
named him their Elk of
the Year.
Andy was also well-
known as a woodcarver,
agate polisher, counted
cross-stitch artist, and a
pinochle and cribbage
player extraordinaire.
An article detailing his
making and giving away
over 3,400 wooden Celtic
cross necklaces appeared
in the July-August 2019
edition of Presbyterians
Today magazine.
He was the husband of
Alice Irene Giese for 62
years; father of Andrew
John LaTomme, III (Susan
Gehring); grandfather of
Matthew John LaTomme
(Suzanne Day), Andrew
Ryan LaTomme, David
Jeffrey LaTomme (Sherie
Call) and Amy Christine
LaTomme; great-grand-
father of Hannah, Colin,
Zachary, Jaden, Andrew
John IV, Korbin, Tobias,
Skyler and Allicyn; and
brother of Elizabeth Led-
dy.
He was preceded in
death by his parents (An-
drew, Sr. and Catherine),
his wife, two sisters (Mary
Schultz and Cathe-rine
Ahl), and a grandson
(Andrew Ryan).
A celebration of his
life will be held Tuesday,
Aug. 6, at 11 a.m., at the
Presbyterian Church of
the Siuslaw, 3996 High-
way 101, Florence, Ore.,
97439.

L.C. Sheriffs
seek shooting
suspect
Lane County Sheriff ’s
Office (LCSO) is seeking
assistance in locating a
shooting suspect in Flor-
ence.
On Monday, July 29,
at 5:50 p.m., LCSO re-
sponded to PeaceHealth
Peace
Harbor
Hospi-
tal
in
Florence
re g a rd -
ing
a
gunshot
Gene
wound
Joseph
victim
who was
reportedly shot in the
leg earlier in the day in
an area south of Flor-
ence off Highway 101.
Detectives responded
and their investigation
has identified 35-year-
old Gene Manuel Joseph
from Florence as a sus-
pect in the shooting.
Joseph is described as
a white male standing
5’10” tall and weigh-
ing approximately 200
pounds. He has black
hair and brown eyes,
and may have a long,
black beard.
LCSO is asking any-
one who has seen Joseph
since Monday or knows
where he is to call 541-
682-4141.
Do not attempt to
contact or apprehend Jo-
seph as he is considered
armed and dangerous.
