This fun community event brings thousands of families to Miller Park in Florence for an evening of safe activities, free dinner and snacks and getting to know local law enforce- ment. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. NNO is a community-police event in the United States celebrated by over 16,000 communities for the past 36 years. The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in By communities, such as drug prevention, Chantelle town watch, neighborhood watch and Meyer other anti-crime eff orts. Siuslaw News “We just want to educate everyone in the public,” said Florence Police De- partment Executive Administrative Assistant Jamie Gorder, who plans the NNO event for the area each year. “This year, I wanted to make sure that other County Emergency Management and ARC of parts of Lane County that are so close to us Lane County will also be in attendance pro- know that we’re doing this. The activities will be spread through- out the park, mostly so the infl atable activities can access the park’s electri- cal grid “I like it spread out this way because some people didn’t know our park was as large as it is and that there are that many baseball fi elds,” Gorder added. “With the city getting the new snack shack, there’s a part of the park under construction, so I like that we’re utiliz- ing the whole park.” The live music will be recognizable to peo- ple who attended the 2019 Power of Florence Parking Lot as the Tavish Sextet plays jazz from the center of the park. “I want people to bring chairs and blankets and just sit and enjoy some great jazz music,” Gorder said. Nearby, Florence Kiwanis Club will guide kids in a variety of lawn games. For those kids who get overwhelmed by large community events, “ARC of Lane Coun- ty will off er a kind of sensory tent for children who have trouble processing and have diff er- ent needs than other kids,” Gorder said. “They will also have a fun activity to do, which is a great addition.” See NATIONAL NIGHT OUT page 2 38 million neighbors | 16,000 communities | 36 years of NNO Rotary Club of Florence Oregon IN HISTORIC OLD TOWN October 11-13, 2019 Fri-Sun: Great Glass Float Trail Saturday: Wine Trail – 12-5pm Sunday: Chowder Trail – 12-4pm Saturday November 30, 2019 Chocolate, Cookies & Cider served by local merchants Search for prizes Florence Holiday Festival 2019 JOIN US IN HISTORIC OLD TOWN December 7th, 2019 3:30-6pm Celebrating C el with Santa the 3rd Annual Light up Your Boat-Float, Hayrides, and Holiday Shopping!
