Stocking of the mid-coast
lakes began the first week of
February and will continue into
June. Check the stocking sched-
ule online for dates and locations
of stockings. These early stock-
ings include: Alder and Dune
Lake, Cleawox, Lost Lake,
Munsel Lake, Thissel Pond,
Mercer Lake, Big Creek
Reservoirs, Ollala Reservoir
and Devils Lake.

his year’s summer Babe Ruth
Baseball Program was, well... a
hit. Both teams, 13U and 15U,
combined for a 22-1 record this sea-
son, with the 13U team going 11-1,
and the 15U team finishing undefeat-
ed with an 11-0 record.
As the summer continues on so, so
will 13 players from Florence who
made the South Coast All-Star Teams
— with four players on the 13U team,
three players on the 14U team and six
players on the 15U team.
Coaches Dan Rankin and Derek
Wells will be coaching the 15 U All-
Star Team in the State Tournament,
which will be played July 12-14 at
Clyde Allen Field in North Bend.
“Come support our local players at
the tournament,” said Wells.
If they win, they will move on to the
regional tournament July 21-27.
“Both teams were exceptional this
year and should bring a lot of excite-
ment and wins over the years to come,”
Wells added. “I know the season just
got over but I am ready for next year!”
Wells gave a special thanks to Coach
Rankin, as well as Henry and Riley
Rankin, who made sure the field and
scoreboard were ready to go for each
home game.

Cyclists from the University of Texas ride for cancer awareness
The Texas 4000 bicyclists
will be arriving in Florence
again this Sunday July 7th
around 3:00pm coming in
from Eugene. St. Andrews
Episcopal Church is hosting
them with the help of many
other community supporters.
This is the 14th year the lon-
gest charity ride in the world
is stopping here in Florence.
There are 10 guys and 18
gals in this group each bik-
ing 4000+ miles from Austin,
TX to Anchorage, AK often
in many challenging condi-
tions and terrains. Their mis-
sion is to spread HOPE for
those suffering with cancer,
