Thompson recognized as ‘Tourism Ambassador’
Travel Lane County recently
hosted its annual Visitor Indus-
try Celebration awards dinner
in Eugene, where organizations
and individuals were recognized
for their service to the Eugene,
Cascades and Coastal Region
through their promotion and am-
bassadorship of those areas.
KCST Coast Radio’s Jon
Thompson was selected by Travel
Lane County for its Tourism Am-
bassador Award. To be chosen,
the Chambers of Commerce in
each community each nominat-
ed an individual or business that
made important contributions
to visitors’ experience in their
community or region. Thomp-
son was recognized for his many
community sponsorships as well
as involvement in events such
as Rhododendron Days, Rods
N’ Rhodies and establishing the
Florence JazzFest.

Lane County Parks to hold community meeting on N. Jetty lease
Lane County Parks is
considering entering into
a long-term lease with the
Oregon Department of
State Lands (DSL) for the
North Jetty Park in Flor-
ence, and will be holding a
community meeting to dis-
cuss the prospect on Mon-
day, June 24 from 6 to 7:30
p.m.
North Jetty Park is 250
acres that abuts Lane Coun-
ty’s popular Harbor Vista
Campground and is south
of Heceta Beach.
The North Jetty Park is
currently owned by DSL
and operated by the Oregon
Parks and Recreation De-
partment.
The park is zoned “Park
and
Recreation”
and
“Beach/Dunes.” This largely
undeveloped park includes
beach access, an informal
trail system, a dive dock,
portable restrooms, ponds
and stands of shore pine.
According to ORPD’s an-
nual car counts, the park re-
ceives an average of 114,000
visits annually.

What we love most about Florence is the
people. You cannot go anywhere in town
without running into a smile or a “howdy.”

available. For a small town there is always
something to do or places to go. Ride
the dunes, be entertained by many a
performance or simply go out to eat and
watch life pass by ever so slowly. (With
