W
ith teams coming from as far away as Idaho, the
annual Rick & Corrine Gehlke All-Star Baseball
Tournament was played over the course of two
days, June 15 and 16, at Miller Park, where Florence's Siu-
slaw Basbeall Softball Association (SBSA) fielded its own
all-star teams for the Rookies, Minors and Majors brack-
ets. The Littlefoots (above), the SBSA Rookies team, went
7-1 overall en route to the tournament title. Their only loss
came against the Boise Idaho team in a narrow 9-10 loss,
which the Littlefoots avenged with an 18-10 win in the
semi finals before beating North Bend 14-3 in the cham-
pionship game. Florence's Majors team went 6-2 overall,
finishing second after falling to South Umpqua twice — in-
cluding in the title game, 10-0. Along the way, the Majors
beat Reedsport (7-6), Lincoln City (8-4), Gold Coast (4-
3), North Bend (12-8) and SET (Siletz-Eddyville-Toledo)
11-7. The Minors team for Siuslaw was eliminated on the
second day. This Saturday, Miller Park will be home to the
Rick & Corrine Gehlke Softball Tournament, June 22-23.
MID COAST LAKES

lakes began the first week of
February and will continue
into June. Check the stocking

locations of stockings. These
early stockings include: Alder
and Dune Lake, Cleawox,
Lost Lake, Munsel Lake,

Reservoir and Devils Lake.
Warmwater fisheries are
improving in several lakes
around the Florence area
including: Siltcoos,
Tahkenitch, Mercer, and
Munsel.
Note: Ollala Resevoir has
been re-opened and stocked.
Check the stocking schedule
for future stockings.

SILETZ RIVER: Summer
steelhead, spring Chinook, cut-
throat trout
The Siletz River is open
year-round for steelhead and
summer steelhead fishing has
improved. Anglers are catch-
ing summer steelhead
throughout the system but the
best fishing is in the
Moonshine and gorge areas.
The summer steelhead fishery
picks up in May and peaks in
June and July.
Summer steelhead in the
Siletz River offers a great
warm weather steelheading
experience. Hatchery fish are
released at Twin Bridges and
Moonshine Park. Many
anglers fish the upper “gorge”
area for these hard fighting
fish. Bobber fishing with jigs/
bait, casting lures, and drift
fishing are great techniques to
catch a Siletz summer steel-
head. Fishing will improve in
May and peaks mid-June
through July/August and then
continues to produce fish
until the heavy rains come in
the fall.
The 4.0 mile bridge (aka
Steel Bridge) in the Siletz
gorge is open to motorized
vehicles, but is only open to
public vehicles on the week-
end. Anglers can walk/bike in
the road dur-ing the week-
days. If anglers do walk in
they can park at the one mile
gate and start from there.
Trout fishing reopened on
the Siletz on May 22, time to
hit the river. Check the regu-
lations for open areas and
gear restrictions.
SILTCOOS and
TAHKENITCH lakes:
Warmwater species
Warmwater fishing has
been improving on Siltcoos
and Tahkenitch lakes. The
recent warm weather is warm-
ing up the water and getting
the fish more active. We are
now in the post spawn time of
year, fish will start to move
out the shallows and disperse
throughout the lakes into a
variety of habitats. Warmwater
