OBITUARIES
WRIGHT—Kelly Lau-
rel Wright, 36, of Florence,
passed away May 11, 2019,
at PeaceHealth-RiverBend
Hospital after a short ill-
ness.
Kelly was born Sept. 8,
1982, in Portsmouth, Va.
She moved with her family
to San
Diego,
Calif.,
in 1985
a n d
lived
there
until
2004,
when
Kelly Wright

moved
to Lemoore, Calif., to be
closer to family.
Kelly moved with her
daughter to Florence, Ore.
in 2017, again to be closer
to family.
Growing up in the San
Diego area, Kelly attend-
ed Freese Elementary, San
Altos Elementary, Lemon
Grove Middle and grad-
uated from Mt. Miguel
High in 2000. Kelly took
a number of classes at sev-
eral community colleges
and business schools and
attained advanced business
certifications for adminis-
trative work.
She worked several dif-
ferent jobs over the years.
For the last two years
she was a receptionist at
Oceanside Veterinary in
Florence, a job she always
called her dream job. She
dearly loved animals and
was thrilled to work with
them.
A talented musician,
Kelly started playing the
flute in fourth grade. She
learned the bassoon in
middle school and played
it in her middle and high
school orchestras. She con-
tinued playing the flute in
marching band throughout
middle and high school.
She also learned to play
piccolo, bass clarinet and
piano. Kelly also had a
beautiful singing voice.
Kelly will be lovingly re-
membered by her daugh-
ter, Alison, 4; her parents
Cynthia J. and Joe; her
brother Matt (Lindsey);
grandmother Alice; and
many cousins, aunts and
uncles and friends.
A memorial service was
held for Kelly on May 15 at
the Presbyterian Church of
the Siuslaw in Florence.
Another memorial ser-
vice will be held in San Di-
ego, Calif., on a date yet to
be determined.

LOKEY—Clady Lokey,
86, of Florence, passed
away peacefully in his home
while

Clady Lokey dy was
born
in Bid, Ark., in 1933, the
fourth of seven children.
In 1951, the family moved
to Oregon, where he lived
out his life.
In 1954, he married
Anna Steinlichner; they
had two daughters, Barba-
ra and Yvonna.
In 1968, he married
Norma Worley, who sur-
vives him.
Clady was preceded in
death by his parents, Ra-
chel and Wes Lokey; his
older brother Richard and
younger brother Allen.
He is survived by his wife,
Norma; daughters Bar-
bara and Yvonna; grand-
children, great-grandchil-
dren and many neices and
nephews; his two sisters:
Maxine Courtney and Pat
Dick; and his youngest
brother, Larry.
Clady was a kind and
gentle man who will be
greatly missed by those
who loved him.
RAGAN—Patricia Ann
Ragan, 91, of Florence,
passed away May 6, 2019.
“Patsy” was born on
Nov. 22, 1927, at Pacific
Christian Hospital in Eu-
gene, Ore., to Osman and
Margaret Hickok Sullivan.
She graduated from Eu-
gene High School in 1946
and lived in Lorane, Ore.,
Colorado and Arkansas
before returning to Flor-
ence in 1995.
She married Burton
Ragan in Eugene on July
12, 1946, and was happily
married to the love of her
life for 50 years until his
death on Sept. 6, 1996, in
Florence.
Patsy worked as an LPN
and as an RN in the acute
coronary care unit at St.
Joseph’s Medical Center
in Hot Springs, Ark., after
graduating from Garland
County Community Col-
lege.
She enjoyed reading,
quilting and helping oth-
ers. She was an active
member of the First Baptist
Church in Florence.
She was preceded in
death by her eldest son,
James, on Jan. 25, 2007,
and by her brother, James
F. “Monty” Sullivan, of
Florence.
She is survived by her
sons: David (Becki) of
Florence, and Steve (Tina)
of Olathe, Kans.; her a
daughter-in-law,
Susan
Swartz Ragan of Salida,
Colo.; her granddaughter,
Jennifer Ragan of Boston,
Mass.; her grandson, Alex
Ragan (Hope) of Olathe,
Kans.;
great-grandson,
Will Ragan, also of Olathe,
Kans.; step-granddaugh-
ter Alison Selle Jeffrey of
Pueblo West, Colo.; and
step-grandson, John Selle
(Maribeth) of Weymouth,
Mass.
No services are planned.
Inurnment will be at Pa-
cific Sunset Cemetery in
Florence through the di-
rection of Burns’s Riverside
Chapel.
The family is very ap-
preciative of the wonderful
care she received through
Brightstar Care, Peace-
Health Peace Harbor Hos-
pital, PeaceHealth Hospice
and at Hubbard’s Retreat in
Florence.
A special thank you to
her loving friends at the
First Baptist Church in
Florence for their support.

68, passed away from can-
cer on April 17, 2019.
A Celebration of Life
and potluck will be Sat-
urday, June 1, at Florence

Siuslaw Watershed offering
exploration summer camp
The Siuslaw Watershed
Council is excited to an-
nounce another Water-
shed Exploration Camp,
scheduled for June 17-21
for youth entering fourth
through 12th grades.
This year, due to in-
creased funding, the camp
is able to offer different
age-appropriate activities,
splitting the camp in half
for the younger and old-
er groups throughout the
week, with full group ac-
tivities occurring when ap-
propriate.
Campers will travel
throughout the Siuslaw and
Coastal Lakes watersheds
learning about local plants,
animals, rivers, lakes and
the forest.
Campers will get a
chance to make a difference
in the watershed through
hands-on restoration work
in between fun activities
highlighting some of the
unique recreation oppor-
tunities in our area such as
stand-up paddle boarding,
canoeing,
sandboarding
and more.

Camp is $75 for the week
and scholarships are avail-

Lane County Sheriffs conducting saturation patrols this weekend
The Lane County Sher-
iff ’s Office will be conduct-
ing grant-funded satura-
tion patrols in the Florence
area and Highway 126 area
through Sunday, May 19,
during the Rhododendron
Festival.
Deputies will be focus-
ing on speed limit enforce-
ment, seat belt compliance
and DUII detection and
apprehension.
These patrols are funded
through grants adminis-
tered through the Oregon
Department of Transporta-
tion (ODOT) and the Or-
egon State Sheriffs’ Associ-
ation, allowing deputies to
conduct saturation patrols
on overtime to increase
community safety.
This funding makes it
possible for the sheriff ’s
office to participate in state
and national efforts to re-
duce traffic crashes, inju-
ries and fatalities on Lane
County roads.
According to ODOT,
Highway 126 remains one
of the deadliest highways
in the State of Oregon.
Lane County Sheriff ’s
Office is anticipating heavy
traffic and congestion on
Highways 101 and 126 as a
result of the festival.
Motorists are advised
to expect delays in the
area and are encouraged
to drive safely, drive sober
and always wear your seat-
belt.

Spring outdoor burning resumes after week-long delay
The spring outdoor
burning season reopened
in Lane County last
Thursday, May 16, after
being temporarily sus-
pended due to high fire
danger.
The previous week’s hot
temperatures and windy
conditions factored into
the Lane Fire Defense
Board and Oregon De-
partment of Forestry’s de-
cision to temporarily close
the outdoor burn season.
Recent rain and fore-
casted
precipitation
helped reduce fire risk
enough to reopen the
burn season.
Although burn season
has reopened, residents
should check the the daily
advisory before burning;
different areas in Lane
County have different
rules, with some cities
like Eugene and Florence
banning outdoor burning
entirely within their city
limits.
The advisory is online
at www.lrapa.org or peo-
ple can call the burn line
at 541-726-3976.
“The current fire risk is
down but we always en-
courage residents to look
for alternative ways to
get rid of their yard de-
bris,” said Lane Regional
Air Protection Agency
spokesperson, Jo Niehaus.
“Chipping, compost-
ing and hauling the de-
bris away will help reduce
smoke and fire danger.”
Outdoor burning sea-
son will officially close on
June 1 for Oakridge and
Lowell and June 15 for
other areas in Lane Coun-
ty unless heightened fire
danger closes the season
early.
The Lane Regional Air
Protection Agency re-
minds residents that vio-
lation of outdoor burning
rules can result in stiff
fines. Burning in barrels
is illegal in Lane County
year-round and garbage
burning is illegal through-
out Oregon.
