Faye Mathers was born in
Portland, Ore., and spent
the Great Depression in a
little town called Colton,
Ore., until her family
moved
to Flor-
e n c e
in the
1940s.

passed
a w a y
Lillian Mathers Feb. 24,
2019.
Lillian and my grand-
father, Francis, worked at
the Drive-in theater that is
now Miller Park. She spent
many years doing child
care out of her home before
taking a job in the Siuslaw
High School laundry and
eventually retired from the
school district.
She was a Rebekah IOOF
(Independent Order of
Odd Fellows) for many
years and a member of
Florence Christian Church.
She is survived by her
sister, Marie Fosback, of
Florence; four grandchil-
dren: Christine Hendrick
(Daughter Brynna Hen-
drick), Catherine Francis
(Husband Randy, sons
Johnathan and Zachery
Francis), Melony Pelroy
(daughter Chrystal and
Son Ryan Pelroy), and
Shane Johnson (wife Bran-
dy and daughters Shaylee
and Lacey).
She will be remembered
as a kind of person whose
hugs lasted for an eter-
nity. Every time we met,
her eyes shined and for a
moment; nothing in the
world mattered except be-
ing there, with that beau-
tiful woman — the one
who picked up pebbles and
built mountains; the one
who brought generations
of people together just by
being her wonderful, kind,
loving self.
Every hug was a blessing,
because in those moments
she was telling me, “I’ll love
you in Heaven just as much
as I do here.”
I’m so lucky knowing a
person like that lives in my
heart.
I love you, Grandma. I’m
so happy you get to be with
your loved ones again.
Private cremational rites
were held through Burns’s
Riverside Chapel Florence
Funeral Home.

passed away at home on
April 16, 2019.

Police participating in DUII High Visibility Enforcement today
The Florence Police De-
partment will participate in
extra DUII Enforcement on
today, April 20. The Flor-
ence Police Department has
received additional DUII en-
forcement funds to help seek
out impaired drivers and to
deter people from driving
while they are impaired.
These funds are made
available to the city from
Oregon Impact, who admin-
isters DUII grant funding in
Oregon.
Law Enforcement agen-
cies throughout Oregon and
the rest of the United States
participate in nationwide ef-
forts to get impaired drivers
off the street. High Visibility
Enforcement, accomplished
by increasing the number of
officers on the streets aggres-
sively seeking out impaired
drivers, is designed to deter
people from driving while
impaired.
