OBITUARIES
WILSON—Shirley June
Wilson, 93, born in 1925,
died April 4, 2019, in Flor-
ence, Ore., at PeaceHealth
Peace Harbor Hospital. Shir-
ley was a resident of Flor-
ence for almost 30 years.

Olive S.
Wilson,
Shirley Wilson f r o m
Minne-
sota; her two older brothers,
Rich-ard and Byron Wilson.
Just seven weeks ago, she lost
her best friend and younger
sister, Mary E. Wilson, from
Med-ford, Ore. This seemed
to have taken the wind right
out of her sails.
Surviving Shirley are
many loved nieces and
nephews from around the
country.
After high school in Min-
neapolis, she enlisted at the
end of World War II, in the
WAVES (Woman’s Naval
Reserve), and as a result was
a proud member of the Wil-
mette Valley Honor Flight
in 2014. After the war, she
joined the Hormel Girls and
USO, touring towns in the
U.S. and around the world,
dancing, singing and bang-
ing a mean drum. Before
moving to Florence in 1991,
she spent almost 30 years in
Los Angeles at KABC in the
sales group. The prime ben-
efit was being able to sneak
away to the fantastic KABC
box seats in Dodger Stadi-
um, to watch her adored LA
Dodgers in person. Give her
a dog on her lap, the Dodg-
ers on the radio or TV and
she was happy. While in
Florence, she enjoyed hav-
ing lunch with friends, vol-
unteering, playing golf and
going to her favorite church.
She will be sorely missed.
No service is planned.

WITTWER—Irene Col-
well Wittwer, 80, a Florence
resident since 1946, passed
away April 5, 2019.
She is a member of Siu-
slaw High School class of
1956.
Her daughter Tammy
Wittwer and sons, Steven
Wittwer and Michael Witt-
wer, survive her. She is also
survived by her brothers,
Arnold Colwell and Roger
Colwell; her seven grand-
children; a great grandson
and a future great-grand-
daughter.

death by her loving and car-
ing hus-
band,

their

t e r ,
Kelly
Irene Wittwer Wittwer
Burnett.
Irene
loved her family and friends.
They were all very special to
her.
A Celebration of Life will
be Sunday, April 28, at 1
p.m. It will be at the Seventh
Day Adventist Church locat-
ed at 4445 Highway 101 in

gerous driving conditions
including reduced visibility,
reduced traction between
tires and the road, and less
predictable car handling.

to get where they are going.
Also remember to:
• Slow down, especially
through high water. Driv-
ing through several inches
of water at high speed can
cause you to lose control of
the car.
• Be aware of the poten-
tial for hydroplaning, when
your tires encounter more
water than they can scatter.
Your tire loses traction with
the road. If this occurs, ease
off the gas, gently apply the
brakes and steer straight
ahead.
• Keep your distance; you
may need more time to slow
down.
• Turn on your headlights
to improve visibility.
• Disengage your cruise
control.
• Check your brakes. Af-
ter driving through a pud-
dle, check that brakes are
working properly by tapping
them gently a few times.
