Seattle-based orchestra to play April 24
Seattle’s Valse Café Or-
chestra swings into Florence
for a night of romantic mu-
sical entertainment in April.
This special event will take
place at the Florence Events
Center on Wednesday, April
24, at 7 p.m. Come early for
the pre-talk at 6:15 p.m.
Valse Café Orchestra origi-
nated with a singular goal: to
win hearts with post-mod-
ern renditions of dance hall
classics. Its eclectic reper-
toire celebrates a roman-
tic mélange of bygone eras.
Paris in the 1930s, Hapsburg
Vienna, Yiddish melancholy,
Gypsy romance and Ragtime
Manhattan — all connected
by the mesmerizing tempo of
waltz and the exuberant syn-
copation of swing.
As its name implies, the or-
chestra typically plays mostly
waltzes, but the group’s pro-
gram usually features a mix
of swing tunes, foxtrots, pol-
kas, two steps and tangoes.
“We don’t just play great
music exceptionally well,”
said late Artistic Director
Susan Balshor. “Our goal
always is to create romantic
evenings of fantasy and plea-
sure.”

for the pre-talk, then stay for
a romantic evening of musi-
cal entertainment.

is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3)
bringing unique music and
entertainment to the Central
Coast for 38 years.

Coastal Writers meets first, third Thursdays
The Coastal Writers group
has been in existence for over
25 years. It is a group of writ-
ers who love to share their
work, inspire each other, get
feedback and pick up writing
tips and styles.
Whether it’s a novel, an es-
say, poetry, a memoir, mem-
bers come with a variety of
talents and interests that
make this group interesting,
fun and friendly.
Writers have come and
gone over the years. Up until
13 years ago, no one had pub-
lished their work. Since then,
five writers have achieved
that status. New members
continue to inspire and add
new ideas.
Anyone is welcome, from
beginners to published au-
thors.
The group meets 7 to 9
p.m. every first and third
Thursday of the month at the
Shorewood Residences meet-
ing room, 1451 Spruce St.
Come with a few pages
to read, along with copies
for the group to critique, or
come and just enjoy the ex-
perience.
The group may consider a
time change if evenings do
not continue to work.
