FlorenoeFest ’19 seeks artists for juried show
The Florence Regional
Arts Alliance (FRAA) is
inviting all artists to par-
ticipate in the third an-
nual “FlorenceFest: Jazz,
Art and Wine” held at the
Florence Events Center,
715 Quince St., on April
26 and 27.
This event continues to
grow in popularity and
over 800 people are ex-
pected to attend. Each
year, about 35 percent of
the artwork is sold. This
year’s event will be high-
lighted by talented jazz
musicians and outstand-
ing wine from throughout
the state.
Selection for the exhibit
will be made by juror Kar-
in Clarke. Clarke has been
the owner and director
of Karin Clarke Gallery
in downtown Eugene for
the past 16 years and has
established herself as a re-
spected figure in the Ore-
gon art scene. She opened
the gallery with the goal
of creating museum qual-
ity shows to recognize re-
gional artists, including
the work of her parents,
artists Margaret Coe and
the late Mark Clarke. In
that time, she’s organized
over 200 exhibits and the
gallery has gained a stel-
lar reputation for showing
major contemporary art-
ists of Oregon.
In addition, Clarke reg-
ularly curates from the
estates of some of Ore-
gon’s most sought-after
artists, like Rick Bartow,
Nelson Sandgren, David
McCosh, Carl Hall and
numerous others. In 2016,
she founded the very suc-
cessful Eugene Biennial
regional juried show.
Clarke has a strong
background in studio
arts, art history, exhibit
design and art apprais-
al. She has exhibited her
own artwork, and in July
of 2018, had a solo show
of her recent plein air oil
paintings of Italy. She also
serves regularly as an art
juror and on art selection
committees in our region,
including Art About Agri-
culture, All Around Ore-
gon Annual, and The Eu-
gene Biennial. In 2017,
she supported the Jordan
Schnitzer Museum of Art
curators in preparation
for a six-month exhibit of
her parents’ work called
“Our Lives in Paint.”
She has won awards
for her own artwork as
well as in her business,
including the Downtown
Eugene Excellence for
Arts & Culture Award
(2007) and Lane Com-
munity College’s Distin-
guished Alumni Award
(2011).
There will be a total
$2,500 in prize money
and awards given for par-
ticipants in FlorenceFest
‘19. The deadline for en-
tries is Feb. 24, 2019.

will be presented on
Wednesday, Jan. 23, at
the Florence Events Cen-
ter from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Open to the public,
this prestigious event
celebrates the local
business community by
naming recipients for
awards in Excellence
in Customer Service,
Curb Appeal, Non-Profit
Achievement, Commu-
nity Caring, Innovation
in Business, and the “Stu
Johnston” Business of
the Year Award.
In addition, two out-
standing individuals in
the community will also
be honored with the Fu-
ture First Citizen Award
and the First Citizen
Award.
For First Citizen, the
two nominees are Debra
“Dee” Osborne and Har-
len Springer.
The nominees for Fu-
ture First Citizen are
Audrey Lowder, Robert
Mans, Samantha Scheer
and Naomi Shoji.
The Florence Area
Chamber of Commerce
will also recognize an
individual or business
that has selflessly given
their time and efforts in
supporting the Florence
Area Chamber of Com-
merce with the Distin-
guished Service Award.
