Festival, happening Jan. 25 to 27 at
the Florence Events Center, with
Sea Lion Caves as the presenting
sponsor.
The 2019 festival headliner is
international star John McEuen,
American folk music icon and
founding member of The Nitty
Gritty Dirt Band. He will bring his
“Will the Circle Be Unbroken” tour
to Florence along with the fabulous
band, The String Wizards.
Opening for McEuen is Pacific
Northwest favorite Chris Kokesh
of Misty River fame and her hus-
band, singer-songwriter-guitarist
LJ Booth. Saturday show sponsors
are Art and Jean Koning/Terrace
Homes, Inc.
The Winter Music Festival opens
Friday with a hot bluegrass night,
featuring Chris Jones & The Night
Drivers. In addition to his bluegrass
artistry, Jones is the popular host of
SiriusXM’s “Truegrass” show.
Friday night’s opener is the hot
‘n’ rising group out of Washington
State, North Country Band.
Saturday’s Americana gener-
al admission show, sponsored by
Oregon Pacific Bank, boasts fan
favorites Katie Jane Lubiens, True
North and Cabin Fever NW, along
with the very best folk singer you’ve
never heard of, Eli West. Any one
of these bands is worth the price of
admission for this amazing after-
noon, but plan to hear and cheer
all four.
Circle back on Sunday to buy
some cornbread and a cup of hearty
soup, then get ready to sing along at
the Gospel Gathering.

Festival remains the invitation-on-
ly Thursday Kiwanis Kids Con-
certs, sponsored by the Kiwanis

Elks Lodge #1858 and the Ladies of
Elks. This one day is like no other
in Florence — when 900 elementa-
ry-age students from Florence, Ma-
pleton and Reedsport rocking the
house to the “Ameri-Celtic” music
and storytelling of Katie Jane Lubi-
ens.

DAR workshop to offer tips on genealogy resources at library
Did you know that the
Siuslaw Public Library in
Florence has the largest ge-
nealogical collection of any
public library on the Oregon
coast?
The collection is based in
the library’s Siuslaw Room.
Kevin Mittge, Adult Services
Librarian and a genealogist
with many years of expe-
rience, will be speaking to
the Oregon Dunes Daugh-
ters of the American Revo-
lution (DAR) chapter about
the family history resources
available at the library on
Friday, Jan. 25.
The meeting will be at
New Life Lutheran Church.

Electronic resources in-
clude Ancestry Library Edi-
tion, a library-version of the
famed Ancestry.com site, and
affiliate-library status with
FamilySearch (the LDS and
Salt Lake City based genea-
logical database), allowing
access to millions of scanned
records, previously available
only on microfilm. There are
three dedicated workstations
for genealogists.
The book collection con-
sists of approximately 100
reference titles, including
the DAR Patriot Index, the
multi-volume “Map Guide
to German Parish Registers”
and the “Great Migration:
Immigrants to New England,
1634-1635” series compiled
by Robert Charles Anderson.

Mittge will discuss some
of these resources in more
depth during the DAR pro-
gram. Community members
are welcome to attend this
meeting and to hear him
share genealogy tidbits that
might help you trace your
own lineage.

ligion or ethnic background,
who can prove lineal descent
from a patriot of the Amer-
ican Revolution is eligible
for DAR membership. DAR
boasts 185,000 members in
3,000 chapters across the

The Indoor Yard Sale
is coming to the Florence
Events Center on Saturday,
Feb. 23, from 8 a.m. to 2
p.m.
Starting Jan. 22 at 9 a.m.,
applications to be part of
the Friends of the Florence
Events Center’s annual in-
door sale will be available
for non-profit groups and
individuals who wish to
rent a booth space to display
their goods.
For those who do not have
a garage, adequate parking
or hard to find locations,
this is a perfect solution to
be part of this huge sale.
Single booths and double
spaces are available for a fee
from $35 to $90 and there
are discounts for non-profit
groups. Space will be avail-
able until Thursday, Feb. 22,
at 5 p.m. for any group or
individual to participate in
the sale.

FRAA Winter Arts Festival set to return Jan. 26
This year, the Florence
Regional Arts Alliance
(FRAA) Winter Arts Fes-
tival will be held Saturday,
Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 5
p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27,
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
during the Winter Music
Festival weekend event at
the Florence Events Center.
FRAA will again be the
organizer for the Arts Fes-
tival, bringing together both
local and regional artists
and craftsmen to fill the
booths, with their latest cre-
ations.
