Volunteers needed for annual
county homeless count Jan. 31
Volunteers are needed
to make this year’s an-
nual Point-in-Time Un-
sheltered Street Count as
comprehensive as pos-
sible. Volunteer duties
include collecting elec-
tronic surveys using the
Survey 123 app and can-
vassing an assigned geo-
graphic area for people
experiencing unsheltered
homelessness.
“Last year, we had over
300 volunteers, which en-
abled a new level of data
collection for us,” said
Lane County Human Ser-
vices Supervisor Alexan-
dria Dreher. “So far this
year, we are severely short
staffed and need addi-
tional volunteer support.”
This year’s Count will
take place across Lane
County between the
hours of 8:30 a.m. to
11:30 a.m. on Thursday,
Jan. 31.
A short training is pro-
vided prior to the count
to help prepare volunteers
for the count.
The
Point-In-Time
Count provides a useful
tool for understanding
homelessness and year-
over-year trends in our
community. One-night
counts are required by the
Department of Housing
and Urban Development
and Oregon Housing and
Community
Services,
which provide funding
for housing and services
related to homelessness.
The information gath-
ered during the Point-
in-Time Count is used
year-round by planning
boards, nonprofits, com-
munity organizations and
policy makers on local,
state and federal levels to
inform their work on this
issue.

unteer, visit www.Lane-

many precious moments
with her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Being a woman of faith,
she was often in prayer
