2A | SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2018 | SIUSLAW NEWS T HE R ECORD OBITUARIES D U N N — N o r m a “ J e a n” Dunn, 89, passed away Dec. 4, 2018. She died at Regency Care Center of natural causes. She had recently sustained a fall at home Norma Dunn that frac- tured her right arm and pelvis. She and her husband of 61 years, Lloyd, moved to Florence in 1962. Lloyd was a timber faller and Jean was a homemak- er, but they both loved to fish. Eventually, Lloyd gave up the timber industry for commer- cial fishing and from that time on they worked together. After having a couple of smaller cab- in cruisers, they undertook the task of building their own boat made of ferro cement. It was a 38-ft vessel named the “Sea Star.” Jean always had some sort of project in front of her; usu- ally stitchery. She’s made more doilies, tablecloths, quilts and handywork than can be count- ed. More recently her favorite thing was jigsaw puzzles, usual- ly 1,000-piece sets. But she was always thinking of her flowers, inside and outside the house. She had the greenest thumb in the world. Jean was the eldest of six girls. She. along with her par- ents, Fred and Mary Ellen Ray, moved to Oregon from Ne- braska when Jean was six years old. She was raised in Indepen- dence, Ore. She is survived by two of her sisters: Betty King of Indepen- dence, Ore., and Alice Parksion of Turner, Ore.; sister-in-law, Mary Richards and husband Max from Monmouth, Ore. Jean was the mother of three children: David Dunn of Flor- ence, Debra (Dunn) Tram- mel of Lakeside, Ore, and Ken Dunn of Salem, Ore. She had four grandchil- dren: Rick Trammel of Sisters, Ore., Rod Trammel of Cottage Grove, Ore., Dave Dunn Jr. of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Stacey Galvin of Salem, Ore. Jean had 10 great-grand- children: Jessica Mortimer of Menan, Id., Mackenzie Filmore of Sisters, Ore., Willie Dunn of Waipahu, Hawaii, Taylor Tram- mel of Corvallis, Ore., Violet Trammel of Salem, Ore., Rev- el Trammel of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Aiden, Kaleb, Brice and Addison Galvin of Salem. Jean was very proud to be a great-great-grandmother of four: Scarlett, Jane, Rulon and Merritt Mortimer of Menan, Id. Family meant everything to Jean and she loved every op- portunity that presented itself to come together. Her funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., at Burns’s Riverside Chapel, 2765 Kingwood St. in Florence, and was open for the public to at- tend. Special thanks to the staff at Peace Harbor Hospital, Regen- cy Care Center and Burns’s Riv- erside Chapel for their genuine love and care. Jean will be missed by her family, neighbors and friends. She was a wonderful example to us of how to live a simple, hard-working life, to take care of others and the most import- ant things in life. She believed in God and His Son, Jesus Christ. She and Lloyd used to attend the Four- square Church in Florence be- fore his passing in 2007. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The piano lessons he took at age 7 opened him to his God-given talent. David was a part of the en- tertainment scene up and down Bay Street in Old Town until around 2015, as both a soloist and as part of the Juke Box Kings band. Momomy was always very loving, caring and nurturing and always thought of others before herself. She raised her children to be responsible and have faith in God; always. Her legacy is that Jesus has been by her side all throughout her life, and she is now home in Heaven with Him. We all love you so much, Mo- momy, and you will be greatly missed by all you have come in contact with. SIMMONS—Arlene L. Sim- mons, 77, of Florence, passed away Nov. 25, 2018.
