MID COAST LAKES:
Stocking of mid coast
lakes stopped in early June,
but fishing for warmwater
spe-cies can still be good in
several area lakes, includ-
ing Ollala Reservoir,
Mercer Lake, Siltcoos Lake
and Tahkenitch Lake.
SIUSLAW RIVER: Fall
Chinook, winter steelhead
Due to lower than
expected returns and con-
servation concerns, Fall
Chinook fishing on the
Siuslaw remains closed
upstream of the Tiernan
boat ramp (down-stream of
Mapleton). Below the dead-
line the bag limit for fall
Chinook is reduced to one
adult Chinook per day and
a limit of 3 now through
the remainder of the sea-
son. Chinook fishing con-
tinues to be slow in the
open area.
All wild coho must be
released for the 2018 fall
salmon season.
Lake Creek, a tributary
of the Siuslaw River, is
closed for the 2018 fall
salmon season.
Trout fishing closed Nov.
1.
Winter steelhead fishing
will open on Dec. 1 and
fish will start entering the
Si-uslaw system throughout
the month of December.
ALSEA RIVER: Fall
Chinook, winter steelhead
Due to lower than
expected returns and con-
servation concerns, fall
Chinook fish-ing is closed
on the Alsea upstream of
the Hwy. 34 bridge. Below
the deadline the bag limit
for fall Chinook is reduced
to one adult Chinook per
day and a limit of 3 from
Nov. 1 through the remain-
der of the season. Very few
fish are being caught below
the deadline and fishing
continues to be very slow.
All wild coho must be
released during the 2018
fall salmon season.
Winter steelhead fishing
is just around the corner.
The Alsea River is known
for its early returning com-
ponent that usually gets
going around Thanksgiving
weekend. The low water
will slow migration but fish
will start entering the lower
river soon. The popular NF
Alsea fishery does not open
until Dec. 1. Bobber fishing
with jigs/bait and casting
lures are all effective ways
to catch these hard fighting
fish.

“We’re a very young team and every
member got a chance to see how they
stack up against other wrestlers from a
lot of small schools,” said Siuslaw coach
Neil Wartnik. “They all had accom-
plishments and also met some immove-
able objects.”
For the team's lone senior Riley
Jennings and sophomore Brady Libby,
Siuslaw’s underclassman-dominated
wrestling team was on the mats for the
first time this season during the Deven
Dawson Memorial Tournament in
Harrisburg over the weekend. A total of
20 teams were on hand for the meet,
giving Viking wrestlers an opportunity
to mix things up with a multitude of

ship rounds for 170 pounds and 126
pounds, respectively.
Both Vikings went undefeated for
their first three matches, including two
pins and a technical fall each before
being defeated in the title round and
finishing second in their weight classes.
