away Sept. 27, 2018.
Steve, affectionately known
by the nickname “Pete,”
passed away peacefully at
his

a life-long
resident of
Florence,
a town he
loved and
cherished.
Stephen
S t e v e
Peerson
loved
all
that Florence had to offer;
he liked to crab, fish, dig for
clams, beachcomb and other
outdoor activities.
He enjoyed many friends,
had a quick wit and a fiery
humor.
Steve was never a father,
but he was “Uncle Steve” to
many of his friends and fami-
lies' kids. Kids always brought
great joy and happiness to
Steve. He loved to give gifts
to children so he could watch
their joy.
Steve had a gentle, caring
soul. He would help and take
care of anyone, any time. He
wanted everyone around him
to be happy, and he went out
of his way to ensure it.
Steve loved and adored all
creatures, great and small, es-
pecially dogs and birds. Steve
rescued many animals in his
life and gave them a good
home.
Please donate to your lo-
cal humane society in Steve’s
name.
Steve is survived by his
brothers: John and his wife,

Mark

peacefully
at home
surround-

2, 2018, af-

Phillip Jarvis battle with
c an c e r.
He was born July 15, 1949 in
Upland, Calif., to Warren and
Raima Jarvis.
He graduated from Cal-
ifornia
State
University
Northridge with a Bachelors
Degree in Fine Arts.
Phil was proud of his Navy
service, having served from
March 1970 through March
1976, stationed at San Nicolas
Island off the California coast.
He served a brief time
in Vietnam performing a
top-secret operations mis-
sion. While in the Navy, he
attended numerous electron-
ics schools and found his true
vocational calling. Following
his military service, he spent
his career as an electronics
engineer having worked at
the Jet Propulsion Laborato-
ry and Xerox Electro-Optical
Systems in Pasadena, Calif.,
American Microsystems in
Pocatello, Idaho, then at Mo-
torola and INTEL in Austin,
Texas.
Phil and his first wife, Sal-
ly Delphine Jarvis, had one
son, John Phillip Jarvis, and
one daughter, Jana Delphine
Jarvis. Phil married the love
of his life, Julie, and they have
been happily married for 38
years.
Phil retired from INTEL
in May 2016 and he and Julie
moved to Florence.
He immediately started
enjoying his life’s passions
and hobbies, such as wood
working, fishing, painting
and cooking. His most recent
project was building a wood-
en surfboard. He had so many
exceptional talents, but one of
his most admirable qualities
was his humbleness.
Phil joined the Florence
VFW Post 3232 in 2016, and
immediately became an active
member committed to help-
ing his fellow veterans. Some
of his fondest memories were
attending the VFW and Band
of Brothers meetings.
He stepped up his volunteer
service to include serving as a
member of the Honor Guard
and took pride in honoring
veterans who have passed in
death.
Phil was preceded in death
by his father, Warren Jarvis;
his mother, Raima Jarvis; and
his brother, Robert Jarvis.
He is survived by his wife,
Julie; his son, John Jarvis
(wife Cindy; daughters Lylah
(and son Ryker) and Jana Jar-
vis (wife Isela Chavez); and
sister-in-law Christine Da-
vies. He will be missed by his
family and friends more than
words can say.
A private family memo-
rial service was held with
the VFW Post 3232 Honor
Guard. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests donations be
made to the Florence VFW
Post 3232 building fund, or to
the Pancreatic Cancer Action
Network (PanCAN).
