discuss ‘Law of Attraction’
On Sunday, Sept. 2, from 10 un-
til 11 a.m., at the Florence Unitar-
ian Universalist Fellowship, Rev.
Dr. Marcia Pearce will lead the
worship service entitled “Laugh-
ter and the Law of Attraction.”
“Many of us have heard of
the Law of Attraction, read the
book or seen the movie,” Pearce
said. “However, do we grasp
the real significance of this law,
or try only to correct ourselves
when it becomes obvious we
have failed to use it?”
Desiring to attract a mate,
start a new love life, climb the
ladder of success etc., are goals
that seem to work well with this
idea of a Law of Attraction. But
what about more subtle ideas,
such as peace of mind, courage,
wisdom, faith, simple good for-
tune and the joy of good health?
Pearce believes, “All of these
warm and encouraging ideas
are available to us, and lift us
into the realm of love, life, light
and laughter.”
The fellowship is located at

Beach Road and is wheelchair
accessible. Each service con-
cludes with refreshments and
a dialogue circle to explore the
questions that come up during
each worship service.

Spirituali-Tea to explore issues of the soul
On Monday, Sept. 3, begin-
ning at 6:30 p.m., all are invited
to join a group of people who en-
joy finding the common grounds
in diverse spiritual thoughts and
paths.
The meeting is at 875 Seventh
St. in Florence.
This week, the Spirituali-Tea
group will discuss the soul re-
maining intact despite the loss of
mental and physical faculties.
The Writings of the Baha’i
Faith say: “Know thou that the
soul of man is exalted above, and
is independent of all infirmities
of body or mind. That a sick per-
son showeth signs of weakness
is due to the hindrances that in-
terpose themselves between his
soul and his body, for the soul it-
self remaineth unaffected by any
bodily ailments.”
This is also the case for anyone
with a mental or physical im-
pairment, and not just relevant
to the elderly. But when demen-
tia or sudden illness strikes and
robs our loved ones of their fac-
ulties, we are in shock and find
it hard to accept that they are
now changed forever, said group
member James Heintz.
In the Baha’i Writings, Heintz
has found that the constant and
unchanging nature of the soul
has been described as being like
the sun, and the mental faculties
as rays that emanate from the
sun. When the rays fail to em-
anate, it does not mean the sun
has ceased to exist, merely that
the mirror that is the temple of
man has ceased to be able to re-
flect its glory.
“So our challenge now is this:
how do we relate on the level of
soul to soul when all our lives
we are used to relating to people
through our minds and our in-
tellects?” Heintz asked.

for open discussion.
The gathering will end at 8
p.m. with prayers for the re-
quests left in the Prayer Pole in
the garden of the Florence Play-
house and those shared by the
group.
