Free fishing throughout Oregon today, tomorrow
Calendar
During today, Sept. 1, and tomor-
row, Sept. 2, no fishing licenses or tags
(including a Combined Angling Tag or
Columbia River Basin Endorsement)
are required to fish, crab or clam any-
where in Oregon for both residents
and non-residents.
Although no licenses or tags are
required, all other fishing regulations
apply including closures, bag limits
and size restrictions.
“Get out and enjoy the last weekend
of summer and do some fishing with
family and friends,” said Mike Gauvin,
ODFW recreational fisheries manager.
Look for the best fishing opportuni-
ties in ODFW’s Weekly Recreation
Report, which is updated every
Wednesday. Some good bets for new
anglers this time of year are warmwa-
ter fishing and trout.
Several waterbodies will be stocked
with trout in time for the holiday
weekend, see the Trout Stocking
Schedule or Recreation Report for

Oregon will have one final weekend
Many times in our lives
we say to ourselves “just
one more.” It may be to
read one more page or
chapter before going to
sleep. We sometimes fi nd
ourselves reading far into
the night only to be tired in
the morning.
“Just one more” can also
cause us to delay a new ac-
tivity. Th is occurs more to-
day with all the electronic
of free fishing on Nov. 23-24, the
Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Pirates, then scored on a quarterback
keeper from JJ Neece to go ahead 30-0.
The Sailors were clearly in control
from the opening kick-off, which led to
a six-play, 65-yard drive to the end zone
for an 8-0 lead less than 4 minutes into
the game.
On the second play of the Pirates’
first possession, a fumble off the snap
fell into the hands of Neece on
Perrydale’s 30-yard line. The Sailors
promptly scored within two minutes,
with Evan Moso breaching the end
zone and Neece providing the conver-
sion for a 16-0 lead with 7:51 still on
the first-period clock.

S IUSLAW B OOSTERS CELEBRATES AUCTION RESULTS , LOOKS TO FUTURE
More than 250 people attended this
year’s Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club
(SABC) dinner and auction on Aug.
11, helping raise an estimated $40,000
for athletics at Siuslaw Middle and
High School.
It was the SABC’s 14 year of hosting
the fundraising event, which consis-
tently raises $25,000 to $50,000 annu-
ally. SABC president Steve Moser
thanked those who donated “and

which would not have been possible
without such generosity and talent.”
The Booster Club donates to the
high school and middle school sports
programs in three ways.
First, the club donates toward the
actual cost of many of the school sports
programs, providing additional fund-
ing where the district may fall short.
This results in what the SABC esti-
mates to be about 20 percent of the
total athletic funding each year.
Money raised by the SABC also goes
to support the Ian Foster Fund, which
awards scholarships to help cover
sports participation fees for athletes at
both the middle and high schools.
In the 2017-18 school year, the Ian
Foster Fund awarded scholarships to

MID COAST LAKES:
Stocking of mid coast lakes
stopped in early June, but
fishing for warmwater spe-
cies can still be good in
several area lakes, including

Lake, Siltcoos Lake and

SIUSLAW RIVER:
Cutthroat trout, fall
Chinook
Fall Chinook fishing on
the Siuslaw river/bay
opened Aug. 1, a few fish
are being caught low in the
system but overall fishing
has been slow. Expect num-
bers of fall Chinook enter-
ing the bays and estuaries
to increase later in the
month and into September.
Best techniques include
trolling herring/spinners
and bobber fishing with
bait.
Sea-run cutthroat will
begin entering the lower
river later this month and
into the fall. These fish are
very aggressive, respond
well to flies and lures, and
can be up to 20-inches
long.
