On Saturday, hundreds of area residents turned out
for the annual Disaster Preparedness Expo at the
Florence Events Center. This year’s focus was “Storm
Readiness,” with booths, speakers and classes aimed
at helping citizens to be prepared in the event of a
major storm. Keynote speaker was “Disaster” Dave
Robinson, who is a disaster prepardeness specialist
and author (above left). Other speakers included SVFR
Chief Director Jim Langborg, Florence Police Chief
Tom Turner and Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT) coordinator Frank Nulty (Top). In addi-
tion to information booths, attendees had the oppor-
tunity to take a suturing class (right), and the first 300
expo attendees received a free 2.5-gallon water con-
tainer. The event was sponsored by Siuslaw News,
Banner Bank, PeaceHealth, the City of Florence,
Florence Police Department, Siuslaw Valley Fire &
Rescue, Three Rivers Casino Resort, Florence Chamber
of Commerce and state senator Arnie Roblan.
