Local entrepreneurs invited for next round of RAIN
The Oregon RAIN Coastal
Pre-Accelerator is a hands-
on, multi-week program for
founders of potentially high-
growth startups in Lincoln
County and Florence/West-
ern Lane County.
The 10-week experience
includes weekly on-site
meetings with Regional Ac-
celerator and Innovation
Network (RAIN), expert
speakers, mentors and peers,
in order to leverage the pow-
er of group expertise.
The sessions will be held
Wednesday nights from 5 to
8 p.m.
In Lincoln County, the
program will run Sept. 5 to
Nov. 14, with the location to
be announced.
In Florence/Western Lane
County, the program will run
Oct. 17 to Dec. 19, with the
location to be announced.
The program involves 10
weeks, 10 meetings and one
intense push to make or
break the business plan.
Weeks 1 through 5 are:
“What Don’t You Know?”
Guest speakers, discussion
and workshopping help
founders develop a vision
and strategy for their compa-
ny. Founders will document
their newfound vision in
an Executive Summary and
Pitch Deck.
Week 6 is a break be-
fore the start-ups return for
weeks 7 to 11, “What Can
You Build?”
Founders will set short-
term goals and sprint to
implement their new vision
with focused action steps.
Founders will refine and fur-
ther articulate their vision
and story in the Executive
Summary and Pitch Deck
created earlier in the session.

a roadmap to success and
connections to mentors who
had experience with launch-
ing products,” said Jesse Do-

Applicants to the Coastal
Pre-Accelerator are founders
of early-stage ventures with
initial market traction and a
hunger for growth. They do
not need to have raised sig-
nificant outside capital or be-
come profitable yet.
Brand new startups with-
out any sales or a mar-
ket-ready product may qual-
ify if they have a balanced
team and commitment to
growing their company.
The Coastal Pre-Acceler-
ator is not the last step in a
founder’s journey. However,
after completing this pro-
gram, each attendee will have
been introduced to a sup-
portive and thriving coastal
entrepreneurial ecosystem.
They will have made con-
nections to peers, mentors
and investors from the re-
gion, and they will have
an open invitation to all
RAIN programs, including
the Coastal Accelerator, as
well as regular meetups and
founders’ groups.

to be coached and mentored
by several accomplished en-
trepreneurs who have started
and sold high-growth com-
panies and raised substantial
investment capital. Because
of RAIN, we have the con-
tacts to expand nationally,
and potentially internation-
ally,” said Patricia Immel,
co-founder of Nature Savvy
in Florence and 2017 Coastal
Pre-Accelerator Graduate.

Master Woodland Manager training to be offered by OSU Extensions
Oregon State University (OSU)
Extension-Lane County will be of-
fering a program providing knowl-
edge, skills and excellence in land
stewardship.
Master Woodland Manager Train-
ing is a nine-session program that
begins on Thursday, Sept. 6, and
ends on Thursday, Dec. 13. Classes
meet at the Lane County Extension
Office — 996 Jefferson Street in Eu-
gene — and run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Over the course of nine sessions,
participants will gain in-depth skills
to tend forests and be provided with
opportunities to share their passion
for stewardship with others.

Grand and topic experts from across
the state as participants learn how to
assess your woodland property by
understanding local ecological fac-
tors (soils, historical land use, tree
and plant species and associated
wildlife) as well as how to conduct
assessments to determine where
woodland is heading as it grows over
time. Participants will also learn how
various management activities will
help you meet your long-term vision
for the property.
The cost of the workshop is $75
per person, or $100 for two peo-
ple from the same household shar-
ing hand-outs. Space is limited, so
