Demolition proceeds on former La Bu La building JARED ANDERSON/SIUSLAW NEWS D emolition has begun on the former La Bu La Restaurant on Highway 101 in Florence after a fire destroyed the building in March. According to Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue Fire Prevention Captain Tony Miller, “With a joint investigation between Siuslaw Valley, the Deputy State Fire Marshall and Oregon State Police, the fire was officially titled ’undetermined cause.’” The City of Florence executed City Code Title 4 Chapter 5: “Abatement of Dangerous Buildings” procedures this summer to encourage the property owners to begin removal of the building’s charred remains. “That process allowed the Building Official to set a timeline that the property owner needed to abide by to dispose of the remaining building per the Building Code, which included the asbestos abatement that they needed to perform before demolition,” said City Project Manager Megan Messmer.
