Charles Edward Whelchel in
1952, in Iowa, and then set-
tled in Whittier Calif. They
had three children together:
Lawrence “Lonny” Whelchel,
Linda Cheryl (Tillota) and
Lowell Bryce Whelchel.
Divorced in 1962, Lorraine
pursued a career in banking
as a teller, worked at a plant
where Corning cookware was
manufactured — all while
attending college to earn her
degree in cosmetology and
raising three children as a sin-
gle mom.
She graduated from beauty
college and went right to work
as a beautician at various sa-
lons in southern Calif.
She met Donald “Don” Mc-
donald in 1967 and, after a
brief courtship, they married
in Reno on July 6 of that year.
They had 36 years together
before Don’s passing in 2003
at age 72. Upon her marriage
to Don, the family moved
and settled in Folsom, Calif.,
where she opened her own
beauty shop until the family
decided to move to Florence
in 1969.
She worked at a few salons
before she opened Lorraine’s
Beauty Salon in Florence for
many years with a vast client
base in the community.
Lorraine was preceded in
death by her parents and a
brother, Alvin; a sister, Eloise
(Turner); as well as her sec-
ond husband, Don.
She is survived by her three
children: Lonny of Eugene,
Ore.; Linda of San Diego,
Calif.; and Lowell of San Ra-
mone, Calif.; her grandchil-
dren: Corey Whelchel of
Walnut Creek, Calif.; Tyler
Whelchel of Junction City,
Ore.; Kendal Whelchel of
Eugene; and Connor Steven
Whelchel of Florence; and a
great-grandchild, Noah.
Along with her biological
family, she also leaves an ex-
tended family and friends that
were close to her for many
years in Wheatland, Hermit-
age and Bolivar, Mo.
Final Interment will be at a
later date at St. Paul’s Ceme-
tery in Scott, Wisc.
WILHELMI—Eugene ‘Jer-
ry’ Jerome Wilhelmi passed
away very peacefully at home
on July 22, 2018.
Jerry was born Aug. 17,
1924, in St. Paul, Minn. He
served active duty in the U.S.
Army Infantry in France
during
WWII.
Soon after
being dis-
charged,
he met and
married
his beau-
tiful wife,
Eugene
Muriel,
Wilhelmi
who pre-
ceded him
in death in 2015.
Jerry first attended the Uni-
versity of Minnesota and then
graduated from Chico State
University in California with
a degree in engineering.
After Jerry and Muriel
moved their growing family
to California in the early 50s,
he settled into a career teach-
ing high school in Orange
County.
After retiring, they moved
to Mendocino, Calif., where
they started the Village Art
Gallery. In the early 90s they
moved to Florence, a place of
which they were quite fond.
Jerry and Muriel enjoyed
big band and swing danc-
ing into their late 80s, as well
as fishing, exploring and
snowbirding to the south-
ern Cal-Arizona desert every
winter for a spell.
Their lives were blessed
with many good times and
great friends.
Eugene is survived by his
three sons: Gene, Dan and
Scott; his daughter, Marcelle;
five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
He was dearly loved and
will be greatly missed as will
be his wisdom, generosity, wit
and humor.
Jerry would sometimes say
when it was getting time to
leave the party, “I’ve enjoyed
about all I can stand.”
Amen.
