Kicking off re-election campaign

Oregon District Nine Rep. Caddy McKeown officially
kicked off her re-election campaign in the Florence area
on Wednesday. McKeown spoke at the new local
Democratic campaign office, giving a short speech and a
summation of the challenges she believes she will face this
election cycle. “This is my fourth campaign and it’s going
to be my toughest yet,” she said. “I will need all of your
help to get my message out and I want to thank you all for
coming this afternoon and I really appreciate your willing-
ness to take some time out of your schedule to help.”
Explore the arts with 2nd Saturday Gallery Tour
The 2nd Saturday Gallery
Tour is today from 3 to 5 p.m.
On the second Saturday of
each month, participants can
explore great local art, interact
with fellow patrons of the arts,
meet artists and enjoy recep-
tions, refreshments, live enter-
tainment and community.
There are various types and
styles on view at any of the 18
participating locations.
New to this month’s tour is
Heffy’s Gallery at 1856 37th
St. Come by the gallery and
the Florence Area Chamber of
Commerce Visitor’s Center to
see this unique wood art.
In addition, Dragon Art Stu-
dio and Gallery, 494 Highway
101, is open to the public, fea-
turing a variety of local and
regional artists who work in
photography, beadwork, fiber,
paint, sculpture and more.
Stop off at Old Town Coffee
& Gallery to enjoy some coffee
and see Tamarah Philipps' latest
drawing collection.
The Studios at Jayne Smoley
Design is featuring
the work of Gigi Las-
san. Jeff Lovejoy will
provide live entertain-
ment.
Also,
Backstreet
Gallery is featuring
the art of Daphne John
and Mike McIntyre.
Meanwhile, the Flor-
ence Events Center has
the “Spirit of Summer”
exhibit on display until
the end of August.
