Account opened for family of Swisshome man killed in motorcycle accident
MAPLETON—Late last Saturday,
Aug. 4, Oregon State Police (OSP) re-
ported to the scene of a fatal motor
vehicle collision that occurred along
Highway 36, near milepost 3, just east of
Mapleton.
At around 9:30 p.m., troopers arrived
to find that a 2007 Honda CBR motorcy-
cle, ridden by 36-year-old Trevor Bern-
hardt of Swisshome, had struck the back
end of a large 1998 Black
Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, op-
erated by Joshua Lee, age 24,
of Mapleton.
The OSP investigation de-
termined that Bernhardt had
been traveling eastbound
when he rounded a corner
and rear-ended the truck as it
was turning northward onto Trevor Bernhardt
North Fork Siuslaw Road.
Bernhardt sustained fatal
injuries and was pronounced
deceased at the scene by medi-
cal personnel.
Lee sustained no injuries in
the accident.
Bernhardt leaves behind
his wife of 16 years, Adrianne
Brooks, and their five children:
Alissa, Ryan, Jeffrey, Arista and Hunter.
An account has been set up at Ban-
ner Bank in Adrianne Brooks’ name,
from which donations will go directly to
Brooks and her children.
Oregon State Police was assisted on
scene by Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue,
Deadwood Creek Fire Service, Western
Lane Ambulance Service and Oregon
Department of Transportation.
Friends of the Library seek donations for annual Labor Day Sale
The Friends of the Siuslaw
Public Library are preparing for
their annual Labor Day week-
end book sale, which will be
held Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sun-
day, Sep. 2, from 10 a.m. until
4 p.m. each day at the Siuslaw
Public Library.
Book sorters Duane Fowl-
er and Jon Peak said that the
Friends currently have more
than 110 boxes of books for the
sale but can use many more.
If you don’t have any more
room on your book shelves,
then now is the perfect time to
clean out all those books you’ve
already read that are filling up
your shelves and donate them
to the Friends of the Library.
The Friends gladly accept
hardback, softcover and pocket
paperbacks in good condition,
along with DVDs, CDs and au-
diobooks on CD in good condi-
tion.
No encyclopedia sets or Read-
er’s Digest condensed books can
be accepted, however.
Donations are accepted at the
main branch during all open
hours of the library.
Bring your donations to the
circulation desk at the branch,
and if you need a receipt for
tax purposes be sure you have a
count of how many of each kind
of item that you are donating.
The Friends of the Library is
a nonprofit organization and all
proceeds from the book sales
benefit the Siuslaw Public Li-
brary District.
Library Director Meg Spencer
recently reported to the Friends
of the Library that more than
$25,000 in Friends donations
have gone towards the new roof
on the main branch that is cur-
rently being completed.
So clean out your shelves,
bring your books to the Friends,
and help the Friends help the li-
brary.
