I
n two weeks, the rumble of Ford
Broncos will return to the
Florence area during the 2018
Northwest Bronco Roundup, which
runs Aug. 17 through 20.
The annual event features the 1966-
77 Ford Bronco Show and Shine at
Three Rivers Casino Resort on
Saturday, Aug. 18, a cruise through
Historic Old Town Florence on Aug.
17, and adventures in the Oregon
dunes each day.
Bronco club members also partici-
pate in an annual canned food dona-
tion to Florence Food Share.
During the round-up, Broncos will
ride the dunes each morning, includ-
ing a special evening beach cruise
sponsored by Tom’s Bronco Parts. The
group will meet at the Goose Pasture
Staging Area on South Jetty Road.
On Friday, the Broncos will cruise
Old Town, beginning at 5 p.m. Come
check out the many different versions
of the classic Bronco design, which
includes custom paint, chrome,
engines — and just about anything
else you can think of to customize the
popular 4x4 vehicle.
The big event is the Show and Shine
at Three Rivers, from 10 a.m. to noon.
All participating Broncos will be on
display. In addition, there will also be
a raffle.
Craig’s BBQ Food Truck will have a
booth at the event for people to pur-
chase lunch.

repair project extends lighthouse closure
The temporary closure of visitor
access to the interior of Heceta Head
Lighthouse has been extended to Sept.
30. Several unexpected issues have hin-
dered the repair work, pushing the clo-
sure beyond its original July 31 end
date.
Crews will continue to repair several
cracked interior metal columns on the
upper floor of the lighthouse. The light-
house lens will be covered and out of
service during the repair work.
The grounds surrounding the light-
house will remain open to visitors.
Interpretive programs will continue as
regularly scheduled, but no visitors will
be allowed to enter the lighthouse.
The historic assistant lighthouse
keeper’s house, which the U.S. Forest
Service operates through a concession-
aire as a bed-and-breakfast, will remain
open.
More inforamtion about the light-
house is on oregonstateparks.org.
