S atu rd ay,
Flora Peterson July 28, at
1 p.m. at
the Flor-
ence Christian Church.
Elmina was born June 22,
1933, to Shirley Thomas and
Mabel Haynes Frazier in Car-
roll County, Ark.
The family moved to Idaho
when she was a baby during
the Great Depression. She
was raised in Jerome, Idaho
where she graduated high
school.
On Dec. 9, 1955, she was
married to Carl T. Peterson
in Boise, Idaho.
She is survived by two
daughters: Carla (James)
Gentry of Harrisburg, Ore.,
and Marcy (Jeff) Town-
er of Nampa, Idaho; four
grandchildren
and
five
great-grandchildren
(with
another arriving soon); a
sister, Doris (Richard) Scott
of Dunsmuir, Calif.; and a
brother, Jerry (Patricia) Fra-
zier of Anaconda, Mont.
She was preceded in death
by her husband of 51 years;
her parents; three sisters; and
one brother.
God and family were El-
mina’s first love and priority.
During her career, she was a
bookkeeper for various en-
tities including the City of
Vale, Ore. She retired from
Davis, Yecny and McCulloch,
CPA’s, after 19 years of ser-
vice.
In 1944, she was baptized
into Christ in the Jerome
Christian Church. She taught
Bible school and VBS to chil-
dren from pre-school to high
school in Christian Churches
in Boise and Emmett, Idaho,
Vale and Reedsport.
She was a member of the
Florence Christian Church.
Elmina enjoyed music, in-
cluding choir and ensemble
singing, and liked to write
poetry and short stories. She
loved God’s creation, espe-
cially the Oregon coast.
Elmina had a servant’s
heart and was taking care
of others before herself and
sharing the love of Jesus with
those around her to the very
end of her life.
The family wishes to ex-
tend their gratitude to the
Heavenly Helpers in Flor-
ence, and the Mennonite Vil-
lage of Albany, Ore.
Memorials may be made to
the charity of your choice.
Mom gave her final gift,
just a week before her pass-
ing, to send children in need
to church camp.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel
Florence Funeral Home was
in charge of arrangements.

City to conduct street striping next week throughout the area, July 25-26
Striping of city streets will begin
Wednesday, July 25, and conclude on
Thursday, July 26, weather permitting.
The City of Florence maintains 87.98
lane miles of roadway, with approxi-
mately 37.97 of those center lane miles.
Under a co-operative contract with the
City of Florence, Lane County crews
will begin striping city streets on July
25, weather permitting.
People are asked to remember to
give striping crews plenty of room and
watch for the orange traffic cones on
Florence streets — or “wet paint” signs
on the vehicles in front or behind the
striper. Although striping crews use
fast-drying, water-based paint, driving
over fresh stripes or changing lanes
when following a striping crew can re-
move the reflectivity of the stripe, re-

duce safety, increase maintenance costs
and spray paint onto your vehicle.
The City of Florence does not assume
responsibility for paint on vehicles.
The paint used is engineered to last,
so it may be very difficult to remove
from a vehicle if driven through wet
paint. If you do happen to drive over
wet paint, it should be removed within
the hour by a high-pressure hose and
using warm soapy water. The city and
county will deny all reimbursement
claims if a driver crosses over wet paint.
The paint is water based, which is
better for the environment. As the paint
is applied thousands of little glass beads
are deposited upon the wet paint. The
glass beads reflect lots of light even at
night. When vehicle headlights hit the
paint, tiny spheres in the glass beads
re-flect the light, making the stripes
brighter for drivers in dark or rainy
conditions.
Don’t change lanes behind a striping
truck.
For more details about street striping
operations, call Florence Public Works
at 541-997-4106.
