FUUF set to find ‘That
Magic Place’ Sunday
On Sunday, July 15, from 10
until 11 a.m., the Rev. Stephen
Landale will lead the worship
service at the Florence Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship. His top-
ic will be “That Magic Place.”
Landale asks, “Do you suffer
from ‘topophilia,’ which is the
love of a particular place?”
He will reflect on sacred places
in our lives — in nature, litera-
ture, and even those we co-create
— using his own experiences.
After a dozen years of UU par-
ish ministry in New England and
Eugene, Landale is now complet-
ing his sixth year as a hospice
chaplain in Oregon.
The fellowship is located at
87738 Highway 101 at Heceta
Beach Road and is wheelchair
accessible.
Each service concludes with
refreshments and a dialogue cir-
cle to explore the questions that
come up during each worship

On Monday, July 16, begin-
ning at 6:30 p.m., all are invit-
ed to join a group of people
who enjoy finding the common
grounds in diverse spiritual
thoughts and paths.
The meeting is at 875 Seventh
St. in Florence.
The topic is Four Kinds of
Love.
The Baha’i Writings say,
“There are four kinds of love.
The first is the love that flows
from God to man; it consists
of the inexhaustible graces, the
Divine effulgence and heavenly
illumination. Through this love
the world of being receives life.”
The second is the love that
flows from man to God. This
is faith, the origin of all philan-
thropy; this love causes the
hearts of men to reflect the rays
of the Sun of Reality, the writing
say.
The third is the love of God to-
wards the self or identity of God.
“This is the transfiguration
of His Beauty, the reflection of
Himself in the mirror of His
Creation. This is the reality of
love, the Ancient Love, the Eter-
nal Love. Through one ray of
this Love all other love exists.”
The fourth is the love of man
for man. The love which exists
between the hearts of believers
is prompted by the ideal of the
unity of spirits.
“This love is attained through
the knowledge of God, so that
men see the Divine Love reflect-
ed in the heart.”
Bring thoughts on the subject
for open discussion.
The gathering will end at 8
p.m. with prayers for the re-
quests left in the Prayer Pole in
the garden of the Florence Play-
house and those shared by the
group.

Three Rivers Casino Resort

and squaring them with state
regulations.
One regulation includes a
requirement for applicants to
show the water source that will
serve the property, a hotly de-
bated topic last year.
Other requirements include
ensuring that all doorways,
windows and openings shall be
screened, proper security mea-
sures be enacted and that noise
from the facilities be reduced.
The ordinance also makes a
distinction between growing
marijuana and actually process-
ing it, with growers being al-
lowed in residential zones, and
processors regulated to com-
mercial zones.
A grow operation consists of
five or more plants. Citizens can
grow up to four plants on their
property without running afoul
of the regulations.
The ordinance is not retroac-
tive, and those marijuana grow
sites already within city limits
will not be subject to the new
rules. If complaints arise for
those businesses, city officials
must rely on existing nuisance
laws or referrals to the OLCC.
“I think this is good because
there is a chance that Dunes
City could go against what we
proposed on the ballot, so this
is a good safety net,” Councilor
Duke Wells said.
In other news, the council
named the Dunes City Volun-
teer of the Year award to Stan
and Ann Anderson, who were
instrumental in recruiting 19
boy scouts and team leaders to
volunteer for this year’s Oregon
Dunes Triathlon. Those volun-
teers helped the city meet the
minimum number of volun-
teers needed for the event for
the first time in the history of
the triathlon.
The ordinance does not go
into effect until Nov. 7, one day
after election day. If the vot-
ers do not approve marijuana
growing and production in the
city, the effects of the ordinance
will be void.
For months, the city’s plan-
ning commission and advisory
committee have been working
on the language of the ordi-
nance, taking into consider-
ation many concerns from the
public and Dunes City Council,
