Chris Chandler to look at 30 years on the
road at KXCR Summer Celebration
Provocative American story-
teller Chris Chandler hosts the
KXCR Summer Celebration on
Sunday July 22, at 7 p.m. at the
Florence Unitarian Universal-
ist Fellowship.
Only a small fraction of
Florence’s entertainment seek-
ers has experienced the likes
of this unique American story-
teller’s show.
Join with KXCR in celebrat-
ing Chandler’s 30 years on the
road.
Behind Chandler's spoken
word riffs on American cul-
ture is a sharp eye and a deep
love of language. Striking in
appearance, sporting a black
bowler on his shaved head, he
sometime finds himself climb-
ing any nearby chair to add
Chris Chandler
emphasis to a story's riveting
conclusion.
Chandler, son of a southern
preacher, left his home and,
instead of pursuing a career
in New York theater, he trust-
ed his instincts to hit the road
to find and tell the stories of
America.
As any entertainer will attest,
it hasn't been easy. For the last
30 years, Chandler has traveled
from gig to gig losing his long
blond hair but sharpening his
craft to deliver a totally unique
entertainment experience to
audiences.
As a special anniversary
treat, Chandler will be doing
a retrospective of pieces from
over the years.
The suggested donation is
$15 to attend. Doors of the fel-
lowship, located at the junction
of Highway 101 and Heceta
Beach Road, open at 6 p.m. and
the show begins at 7 p.m.

FUUF to look at pivotal
patriotism in Philidelphia
On Sunday, July 8, from
10 to 11 a.m., at the Florence
Unitarian Universalist Fellow-
ship, the Rev. Dr. Ruth Miller
will lead the worship service.
Her timely message is titled:
1776.
“Two centuries, four de-
cades and two years ago,
several dozen men gathered
day after day in the heat of
summer, debating and strug-
gling to understand the best
next step for them — and the
colonies they represented —
to take in response to what
seemed to be increasingly un-
reasonable demands from the
British crown,” Miller said.
“It was a pivotal time — and
yet even then, there were mo-
ments of play.”
The public is invited to par-
ticipate in this discussion on
the problems and processes
the country's forefathers went
through during those fateful
days in Philadelphia.
The FUUF fellowship hall,
87738 Highway 101 at Heceta
Beach Road, is wheelchair ac-
cessible.
Each service concludes with
refreshments and a dialogue
circle to explore the questions
that come up during each
worship service.
