Grant brings 40,000 feet of new fire hose to Siuslaw Region departments
Last year, Siuslaw Valley Fire
and Rescue (SVFR) received a
regional FEMA grant to replace
all fire hose for SVFR, Maple-
ton and Swisshome/Deadwood
Fire Districts.
The value of the grant was
more than $250,000. The hose
was delivered to Swisshome/
Deadwood last week and will
be delivered to Mapleton next.
Among the three districts, over
40,000 feet of hose was pur-
chased and will be placed on
fire apparatus.
“The typical life of fire hose
is 15 years, which should save
all three fire districts money for
many years,” said Chief Direc-
tor Jim Langborg. “This grant
is one of the many efforts SVFR
has made to partner with its
upriver counter parts in an ef-
fort to help improve emergency
response to all citizens and visi-
tors of the Siuslaw region.”

Siuslaw Public Library re-roofing Dunes City announces open seats for
project scheduled to begin Monday
city councilors, mayoral elections
The Siuslaw Public Library
District will be replacing
the roof of the main branch
building at 1460 Ninth Street
beginning Monday, June 25.
The project is necessary
due to multiple roof leaks dis-
covered during the winter of
2016-17.
The roof replacement proj-
ect was recently awarded to
Rock Roofing of Eugene,
Ore., after a competitive bid-
ding process.
Replacement
of
the
18,000-square-foot roof is ex-
pected to take approximately
two months.
During the construction
period, patrons will experi-
ence some disruption includ-
ing noise, dust and lack of
access to the east end of the
parking lot.
Access to entrances and
other areas of the parking
lots will also be disrupted at
times. These areas will be cor-
doned off to allow safe access
for patrons.
Updates about the roof
replacement project will be
available at both library loca-
tions, on the Siuslaw Public
Library District’s Facebook
page, in the Library Tidings
newspaper column and on-
line at www.Siuslaw Library.
info.
Funding for the new as-
phalt shingle roof came in
part from book and card sales
conducted by the Friends of
the Siuslaw Public Library,
a fundraiser featuring mov-
ie posters donated by City
Lights Cinemas, individual
donations from the library’s
generous patrons and the
estate of Glenn and Marion
Groce.
The Siuslaw Public Library
appreciates the public’s pa-
tience during construction.
