Aging in Place Forum Partners
OUR MISSION:
To improve the quality of life in Western
Lane County through partnerships,
networking, volunteerism, community
involvement, education and awareness
PARTNER: AARP OF LANE COUNTY
Two staff members from AARP Lane County will be at the AARP exhibitors’
booth to provide information and answer questions about AARP’s Smart Driver
Course from 10:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:00, and their AARP Foundation Tax-Aide
services from 12:00-2:00.
The Smart Driver Course can be taken in a classroom or online and teaches
learners evidence-based safe driving techniques and smart useful tips for
navigating today’s traffic. Completion of this course may qualify you for multi-
year discounts on your car insurance.
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is a volunteer-based free service
offering tax preparation and tax counseling according to your individual needs.
Since 1968 this program has helped nearly 50 million taxpayers. Each year well-
trained AARP Tax Aide volunteers offer free income tax assistance at the Siuslaw
Public Library during tax season.
AARP is heavily involved in the issue of “Aging in Place”, and has gathered
many resources on the AARP website to help seniors and those who care for
seniors to plan for successful “aging in place”. In addition, the AARP Public Policy
Institute and the National Conference of State Legislatures published two
research reports. The first was entitled “Aging in Place: A State Survey of Livability
Policies and Practices”, the second was “Aging in Place: A Toolkit for Local
Governments. To learn more and to see the many resources AARP has for seniors
and for those who care for seniors, visit www.aarp.org
