Florence unveils ‘transformational’ public art near Old Town, OCMM
Three new pieces of public art made their de-
but in the City of Florence this week. Florence
Public Art Committee (PAC) unveiled “Copper
Leaf Tree,” by area resident Pancho Clark, and
“Transformation,” by British Columbia artist Paul
Reimer, in two locations in Historic Old Town
Florence.
These installations are part of the committee’s
new Art Exposed Gallery, which will eventually
include five pieces on display on Bay Street. The
committee will also continue to spread public art
around town.
Clark attended the reveal of his steel and copper
artwork at Old Town Park on Monday. The park,
also called Gazebo Park, now has one more tree
amidst the verdant greenery.
“It’s been a long time in the making to have
public art in our
town, and to get art
exposed,” Clark said.
“Things are really
moving along now.”

Besides PAC’s additions to
Florence public art, the Ore-
gon Coast Military Museum
(OCMM), 2145 Kingwood St.,
erected two vintage military
aviation wing tanks on Thurs-
day. The stunning pieces have
been hand-painted by artist Judy Murphy to de-
pict coastal and Oregonian themes.
“The wing tanks now stand at the Kingwood
Street entrance to the museum to enhance vis-
ibility of the facility as a destination attraction,”
said OCMM Executive Director Cal Applebee.
The two tanks, from a 1970s era F-4 fighter,
were donated by Florence resident Fred Calosso,
and stand approximately 15 feet tall. Founding
OCMM board member Tim Sapp helped spear-
head the project with area partners.

Carnival Safety:
• Never ride while under the infl uence of alcohol or drugs.
• Don’t board a ride if you see broken parts, signs of improper
maintenance, or an inattentive operator.
• Drink plenty of water while visiting an amusement facility, espe-
cially on a hot day.
• Wear comfortable clothing and shoes when visiting an amuse-
ment facility.
• Take frequent breaks.
• Pay attention to walking surfaces (cracks, holes, elevations, miss-
ing grates, etc.) a broken ankle or bone will also hinder a day.
• Do not put a child on a ride that they may be afraid of.
• Watch the ride with your child before boarding.
• Tell children to hold on tightly with both hands to lap bars, hand-
holds or any other item designed specifi cally for hand place-
ment.
• Obey minimum height, age, and weight restrictions.
• If you can’t count on your child to stay seated with hands and feet
inside, don’t let them ride.
• Don’t let kids supervise kids on amusement rides.
• If your children are going off with a group of children, talk about
group issues. What should your children do if one of the kids
they are with starts fooling around on a ride? What if one child
doesn’t want to go on a ride and the others start teasing or pres-
suring him?
