KXCR invites community to
4th anniversary celebration
On Saturday, April 21,
KXCR invites the community
to a “Get Together” for its
fourth anniversary.
Area listeners are invited to
drop by KXCR Community
Radio, 1509 Ninth St. in
Florence, from 2 to 8 p.m.
“Get Together” to celebrate
Florence’s only nonprofit
radio station as it continues to
shine its little light into the
new world of corporate
media.
As a way of (re)introducing
itself, KXCR 90.7FM has
dedicated April 21 to invite
fans to meet and greet the sta-
tion’s volunteers, munch
some homemade cookies,
voice a station promo and
find a CD or vintage vinyl to
take home.
But before the afternoon is
done, people might find an
opportunity to sit in with one
of our DJs, get a program
schedule for the week and ask
about getting a thumb drive
recording of a favorite show.
While they’re at it, they will
find some time to grab a bite
of dinner.
People are also invited to
cast a vote for their choice of
T-shirt designs, receive a gift
certificate for tea and cookies
for two at Le Bouchon on Bay
Street and, as a special treat,
stick around to hear and sing
along with KXCR’s house
band “The Relics” lighting up
the back room until the magic
hour.
KXCR’s board, program-
mers and volunteers hope to
see you for this fun event.

Patriot Place draws local, state dignitaries
After Mike Bones and the
Florence Ambassadors facili-
tated cutting the grand opening
red ribbon on Saturday, visitors
to the new Patriot Place-All
Things American, enjoyed hot
dogs and apple pie while visit-
ing with special guests Art
Robinson, Jay Bozievich, Teri
Grier and JoRae Perkins.
Patriot Place is a gathering
place and gift shop staffed
entirely by residents volunteer-
ing their labor and finances to
create a positive meeting place
for the community of Florence.
According to volunteer
Sherry Harvey, “An important
goal of Patriot Place is to create
an environment where veterans
and law enforcement personnel
are warmly welcomed and
openly given the respect they
deserve.”
Thursday are “free pastries
for vets” day, with sweets
home made by one of the vol-
unteers.
“Anyone who loves America
like we do will feel comfort-
able and want to stay, relax,
chat, use our free Wi-Fi, watch
TV and shop,” said Harvey.
Patriot Place, 175 Nopal St.
in Old Town, is open Tuesday
through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5
p.m., and will be hosting semi-

Military Museum to host Heritage Day this Saturday

The Oregon Coast Military
Museum will host its Military
Heritage Day on Saturday,
April 21, beginning at 2 p.m.,
in the hangar of Sam Spayd at
the
Florence
Municipal
Airport.
Southern Oregon Veterans
Benefit Member at Large, Russ
McBride, himself a Vietnam
veteran, will share information
about their project that has
been in the works for a few
years in Medford.
The memorial wall will be
national in focus. Even at 80
percent scale, it will still be 360
feet in length and bear the
names of 58,479 Americans (at
current count) who gave the
ultimate sacrifice.
It will sit on 2.1 acres within
the Medford parks system.
McBride will be joined by
the Salem sponsor of the
Vietnam War Memorial Fund

Delicious Ancestral Recipes.”

ical preservation, promotion of
education and encouragement
of patriotic endeavor. These
timeless, overarching princi-
ples keep the DAR strong and
vitally relevant in this ever-
changing world.
Any woman 18 years or
older, regardless of race, reli-
gion or ethnic background,
who can prove lineal descent
from a patriot of the American
Revolution is eligible for DAR
membership.
