Boys & Girls Club celebrates
National B&G Club Week
The members of the Boys
and Girls Club of Western
Lane County are inviting the
Florence community to join
them for National Boys and
Girls Club Week, April 9 to 12.
This special celebration
offers the general public the
opportunity to experience the
life-changing programs the
Boys and Girls Club offers to
children and teens in Florence.
As part of the week, 4,300
Boys and Girls Clubs across
America and U.S. military
installations worldwide will
host week-long celebrations
featuring the many ways that
the Boys and Girls Club of
Western Lane County is “a
place to become,” helping kids
reach their full potential
through outcome driven pro-
grams that focus on encourag-
ing youth to make healthy
choices, build strong character
and succeed academically.
“A Place to Become…”
highlights the impact of clubs
and how trained youth devel-
opment professionals help kids
reach their full potential
“Day in and day out, our
Boys and Girls Club staff and
Fielding
community
questions
mentors deliver quality experi-
ences that make a difference in
a youth’s life beyond their
time at the club. Research
shows that kids who have an
optimal experience at our
clubs are also more likely to
have positive self-esteem, vol-
unteer and be engaged in
school,”
said
Executive
Director
Chuck
Trent.
“National Boys and Girls Club
Week is a special time when
we welcome the community to
witness the amazing impact
clubs have on the lives of kids
and teens.”
On Monday, April 9, from 5
to 7 p.m., the club will be host-
ing an open house at the Boys
and Girls Teen Center, 1501
Airport Road in Florence.
Come join the celebration and
see what all the excitement is
about.
There will also be tours of
the Nan Osbon High School
Building.

Yesterday, Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozievich
and candidate Nora Kent presented their positions
and took questions from a capacity crowd during a
meeting of the City Club of Florence at the Class Act
Theatre. The free noon forum allowed the public to
submit questions on economic, educational, environ-
mental and social issues facing Lane County in the
next four years. Look for a full story in the

It’s a watercolor-full week-
end in Florence as the
Watercolor Society of Oregon
(WSO) holds its 2018 Spring
Convention and Experimental
Exhibition at the Florence
Events Center on April 7 and 8.
The group is holding a series
of workshops and lectures over
the weekend that will offer
instruction, critiques and tech-
niques to all skill levels of
watercolor artists. WSO plans
to take advantage of the cre-
ative energies inspired by the
stunning coastal locations
selected for the weekend.
Organizers chose to hold the
event in Florence with an eye
to incorporating this area’s
unique small-town beauty with
the dynamism and energy of
the coast.
Saturday’s schedule includes
two separate opportunities for
artists to experience nature by
