B EST BETS FOR FISHING • Water conditions are almost perfect in the lower Rogue River and lots of winter steelhead are bring caught. • This week is your last chance for winter steelhead fishing on several rivers in the NW Zone — the Necanicum, North Fork Nehalem, upper Nestucca, Salmonberry, Trask (North and South forks) and Wilson (North and South Forks) all close April 1. • Bull trout fishing has been good on Lake Billy Chinook. • The Shevlin and Prineville Youth Fishing Ponds have been stocked and most kids are out of school for spring break. • There will be some bonus, unscheduled trout stocking in Trojan Pond (4,000), St. Louis Pond #6 (3,000) and Progress Lake (2,000). S I U S L AW R I V E R : Deadline approaches for Hall of Fame nominations With the eighth annual Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame induction ceremo- ny set set for this August, nominations to be considered for the 2018 HOF class must be submitted by Friday, April 13. Individual nominations can be made in five different categories, including: • Athletic: For state champions, all- state or post-high school athletic achievement that could be defined as an Olympic event; • Teams: A significant accomplish- ment by a Siuslaw athletic team; • Viking Spirit: Private citizen(s) who have made an outstanding contri- bution to the SHS athletic program. • School District Employee: Individual(s) who have made an out- standing contribution to the SHS athlet- ic program, such as coaches, adminis- trators, teachers or support staff. • Civic or Academic: Outstanding SHS student or athlete who, by their post-high school civic, scholastic or professional accomplishments have brought honor to Siuslaw High School.
