6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2018 Viewfinders announces contest winners, Photo of Year Clockwise from left: Photo of the year by Larry Bacon, February contest winner by Ed Wilent and first-place winner for March by Stephanie Ames In February, the Siuslaw Viewfinders photo club held its annual banquet at the Elks Lodge with the theme of “Film Noir.” In addition to prizes for the winners of the Film Noir trivia contests, winners of contest for February and March were announced, along with the Photo of the Year. The February contest theme was “Technology” Winners included Ed Wilent with first place for his photo “Technology,” John Colwell with second place for “Under Investigation,” and third place for “Water Drop” by Bill Stone. For March, the contest theme was “Geography.” Winners were: Stephanie Ames with first place for “Shore Acres Uplift,” Bill Stone with second place for “El Capitan,” and Larry Bacon received third place for “Bowling Ball Beach.” Photo of the Year was awarded to Bacon for his photo “On The Hunt.” In addition, Bill Stone took second place for “Water Drop,” and third place went to Mary Nulty with her canvas wrap of “Golden and Silver Falls.” The next meeting of the Siuslaw Viewfinders is April 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library. The contest theme for April is “Pets.” SVF welcomes all photographers including phone photographers. The club is growing with many activities planned for the rest of 2018, including outdoor photo excursions, learning seminars and a picnic in September.
