PHH holds employee event aimed at improving care
PHOTO BY MARK BRENNAN/ SIUSLAW NEWS
PeaceHealth’s clinical education team held a “Be a Zero Hero” event at Peace Harbor Medical Center this week to promote PeaceHealth’s
clinical excellence initiatives. The event featured informational booths, interactive games and prizes, and participants got a “Passport” stamp
from each table they visited. Themes included falls prevention, pain management and infection prevention. “We had the best turnout of all
at Peace Harbor, and we saw caregivers from across all departments,” said Tammy Wade, RN, clinical education manager for PeaceHealth
Oregon Network. “We want to underscore the message that patient safety is everyone’s responsibility. The level of commitment and com-
passion among caregivers was extraordinary.”

The President’s Award is
one of the highest honors
Safeco gives to independent
agent partners to recognize
their success, hard work, com-
mitment to service and high
achievement.
“We are very excited to be
recognized by Safeco for our
partnership and perform-
ance,” said Willie King, Vice
President of First Community
Insurance. “Our selection for
the President’s Award is a
result of the hard work of our
agents, along with our clients
sharing the word about the
rates and service our agency
has to offer.”
Established in 1957, First
Community Insurance is
headquartered in Coquille,
Ore., with 28 branches
throughout Oregon, including
Florence.
First Community Insurance
is an independent agency rep-
resenting many highly rated
personal auto and home insur-
ance companies. The agency
is wholly owned by First
Community Credit Union

Unitarians hear about
travel, gratitude Sunday
Sunday, March 18, from 10
to 11 a.m. at the Florence
Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship, Patti Godwin will
lead the worship service
titled: “Miles and Miles of
Gratitude.”
Godwin will share snippets
of her 2017 journey across
Middle America visiting
national parks, small towns
and even a bingo hall.
“Traveling is a perfect way
to practice living in the pres-
ent moment of gratitude,
since it opens us to one splen-
did experience after another,”
Godwin said.
She is reminded of what
the historic Roman politician
and lawyer Cicero said best,
“Gratitude is the parent of all
virtues.”
Florence Unitarian Uni-
versalist Fellowship, 87738
Highway 101 at Heceta
Beach Road, is wheelchair
accessible.
Each service concludes
with refreshments and a dia-
logue circle to explore the
questions that come up during
each worship service.

S PIRITUALI -T EA
TO DISCUSS
VIRTUE OF WORK
This Monday, March 19,
beginning at 6:30 p.m., peo-
ple are invited to join a group
that enjoys finding the com-
mon grounds in diverse spiri-
tual thoughts and paths.
The topic for Monday’s
gathering is the close rela-
tionship between the material
and spiritual worlds.
There are significant mate-
rial gains to improvements in
the moral fabric of society;
reciprocally, moral decadence
is costly. One way this link is
nurtured in the Bahá’í Faith is
through the “spiritualization”
of work.
Work is a “calling” and a
divine injunction: “The best
of men,” writes Bahá’u’lláh,
“are they that earn a liveli-
hood by their calling and
M ONDAY
spend upon themselves and
upon their kindred for the
love of God.”
Work becomes a spiritual
act, and thereby becomes
imbued with virtue; honesty,
hard work, and a spirit of
service come to characterize
our actions.
Bring your thoughts on the
subject for open discussion.
The gathering will end at 8
p.m. with prayers for the
requests left in the Prayer
Pole in the garden of the
Florence Playhouse and those
shared by the group.
Meetings are held at 875
Seventh St. in Florence.

Suzanne Mann-Heitz at 541-
590-0779.
