Annual Rotary Auction to showcase work of local artists, photogs
The Siuslaw region is home
to a community of talented
artists of all ages, giving visual
voice to the imagery that sur-
rounds the area.
The Rotary Club of Florence
will showcase a number of
these artists with a variety of
works available for auction at
the March 10 event.
A relative newcomer to the
arts scene, Quinn Lewis, is a
Sophomore at Mapleton High
School. A budding photogra-

currently the yearbook editor at
MHS and attended the
Lifetouch International
Yearbook conference in Santa
Clara, Calif., last year.
His plans after graduation
include further pursuing his
interests in photography, with
the ambitions of starting his
own photography business. He
credits his yearbook teacher,
Jay Blake, with inspiring him
by challenging his talents and
skills. Lewis also has experi-
ence as the school photogra-
pher for community service
events, and runs the school cof-
fee cart.
After being recognized Jan.
9, by The Rotary Club of
Florence as Mapleton Student
of the Quarter, Lewis was
asked to donate one of his
prints to the upcoming Rotary
Auction. A community partner-
ship effort assisted Lewis in
showcasing his work, with
Joshua Greene, owner of The
Archives, professionally print-
ing Lewis’ image, and Cameron
Jagoe of Pacific Frameworks
donating the matting and
framework.
The completed piece is titled
“Historic Crossing” and depicts
an image of the Cushman

will be auctioned off in the
Gallery section of the Rotary
Auction.
Quinn Lewis' photography
will be featured alongside the
works of other local talent.
Additional works in the auction
include a print of Marilyn
Monroe from one of the rare
and previously unpublished
series of photos taken by
Milton Greene and restored by
Joshua Greene; Curt Peters,
owner of Digital Dunes
Photography, has bundled one
of his art pieces titled “Central
Oregon Coast,” which show-
cases the beauty of our rugged
coastline, with a $100 gift cer-
tificate for services at his busi-
ness; the work of local water-
color artist Katheryn Davis was
donated, including the original
watercolor
painting
of
“Ballerina Interlude,” packaged
with volume one and volume
two of “The Art of Katheryn
Davis.”
Two separate artists have
also donated works capturing
the beauty of natural light on
the Siuslaw river, with local
artist Rodger Bennett’s work
entitled “Winter Sun on the
Florence Riverfront,” and pho-
tographer Ken McDougal’s
piece “Boardwalk at Dawn.”
These works of art will be
auctioned off starting at 5 p.m.
on March 10.
All proceeds raised at the
Rotary Auction go towards
scholarships for local youth.
The theme for this year’s
event is “Let the Games
Begin!” in recognition of the
2018 Olympics.
