T his April 13-15, C.R.O.W. will present Disney’s
Tarzan - the exhilarating mainstage musical based
on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and
Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan of the Apes. Disney’s
Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock leg-
end Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-win-
ning playwright, David Henry Hwang.
High-fl ying excitement and hits like the Academy
Award winning “You’ll Be in My Heart” as well as
“Son of Man” and “Two Worlds” make Tarzan an
unforgettable theatrical experience.
Th e Tarzan story is familiar to all generations,
and many of our local Florence residents may have
grown up reading the books and watching the many
huge, Blockbuster-type movies.
Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant
boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him
Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his
ape father, Tarzan’s life is mostly monkey business
until a human expedition treks into his tribe’s terri-
tory and he encounters creatures like himself for the
fi rst time.
Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with
emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing
clashing with his human instincts.
C.R.O.W. is already swinging on the vines of re-
hearsals, planning a wonderful, completely immer-
sive jungle set and lighting plan which takes
advantage of the Florence Event’s Center new system,
and also planning some ape-sized highlights for audi-
ences. One particularly spine-tingling element will be
the live performances by Revelers Aerial Works on 20
foot silks, suspended over the stage.
Th e show’s title role will be played by multi-faceted
high-school senior, Cameron Utz, with the lovely and
talented Alizabeth Norton opposite him as Jane.
Tarzan’s ape mother, Kala, will be portrayed by Halle
Anderson, and giant silverback, Kerchak, will be
brought to life by Jacob Ternyik. William Owens will
be singing jazz and “Trashin’ the Camp” as an adorable
sidekick, Terk.
Th e large cast of Tarzan consists of approximately 65
children and young adults, ranging in age from 4 years
old through early 20’s.
C.R.O.W. will present the show with Broadway-cal-
iber technical design, staging, music, and choreog-
raphy, creating a well-rounded presentation that will
make audiences want to cheer and beat their chests
with happiness!

having it's seminar at the FEC on Satur-
day, April 14th, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
"DNA: What’s It All about? A Family
History Seminar” will be presented by
the Siuslaw Genealogical Society from
8:30 am to 4 pm.

It means a lot to most of us. And to Florence’s
favorite jazz vocal ensemble, music drives them to per-
form as it has for a decade and a half. In fact, they hold
music in such high regard that the FloTones named
their next benefi t concert “Music Matters.” Th eir last
benefi t before Christmas raised over $1,300 for Flor-
ence’s Boys and Girls Club. Th e benefi ciary of “Music
Matters” will be the Siuslaw Schools music programs.
“Music Matters” will occupy the Florence Events
Center’s fl at fl oor for 2 performances on Saturday and
Sunday, May 26 and 27. And in a break from previ-
ous FloTones performances, the ‘Tones will share the
stage with four talented school-kid singers – “Th e
C.R.O.W.Kids” and the very popular “Miles To Go” jazz
quintet.
Songs on the FloTones playlist include the fan-favorite
“Begin the Beguine” and new tunes including “Misty”
and “For All We Know”. Th e “C.R.O.W Kids” perfor-
mance will round out the fi rst half of the show. Aft er
intermission, “Miles To Go” will hold the stage joined
by popular vocalist Maree Beers with a guest appear-
ance by teen singing sensation Nyah Vollmer.
Tickets will be available soon at $20 and $10 for
students. Music matters to the FloTones, the C.R.O.W
Kids, Miles To Go and our Siuslaw Schools music pro-
grams. We hope it also matters to you and you will put
this benefi t concert on your calendar.
