OBITUARIES
COYLE—Ruth
Helen
Coyle said her final words,
“Let me out of this bed. I need
to go find
God,” and
that is exact-
ly what she
did one year
ago on Feb.
23, 2017.
Born in
N e w b u r y,
Mass.,
on
Ruth Coyle
Sept.
14,
2919, to Herbert W. and Susan
E. Pottle, Ruth joined her older
brother, Bill, living in Old
Town Hill. After attending and
finishing school in Boston and
marrying the love of her life,
Robert J. Coyle on Jan. 19,
1943, she moved to Waterbury,
Ct., where their four children
— Bob Jr., Susan, Peter and
Melissa — were born.
In 1956, the family relocated
to Apple Valley, Calif., where
Ruth worked at George AFB
Hospital.
When Bob retired from the
school system, they traveled
full time for 10 fantastic years
prior to settling down in
Florence.
Ruth was an executive secre-
tary by trade, but what she was
really born to be was a mother.
No individual ever loved her
family more than Ruth Coyle.
She would — and did — go to
the end of the Earth to keep all
her children safe and happy.
Bob Jr., Lissa and Bob Sr.,
were all waiting for Ruth when
she arrived last February along
with grandson Bobby and
great-granddaughter Julie, and
an entire herd of rescued ani-
mals.
Also waiting, with bikes
ready, was her best friend Jesse
Alley .
Those of us left missing this
strong, stubborn, wonderful
lady are her son, Pete Coyle;
daughter and husband Susan
and Gary Streit; grandchildren:
Gary Streit Jr., Christy
Steindorf, along with Craig
Trent, Chloe and Logan, and
Scott and Robyn, Emily and
Tori, and Holly Pup Coyle.
One of Ruth’s greatest pleas-
ures was giving $20 bills to
family, friends and strangers.
Her failing health prevented
her from being out much, but
her dollars could travel. As
they moved out among the
world and brought happiness to
others, she felt so did she.
During her time on earth,
Ruth frequently saw and spoke
with God and was very anxious
to be reunited with him. After
she was no longer needed as
Bob’s caregiver, she said she
was “ready to go.”
We know you are happy
now, Mom, but we sure miss
you.

at St. Vincent DePaul
Providence

Volunteers sought for Dunes City committees
Several opportunities exist
for Dunes City residents to
contribute to their community.
The Planning Commission
is seeking a new member to
replace Brett McKnight, who
recently resigned.
The Planning Commission
considers land use applica-
tions and revisions to land use
codes. Members of the
Planning Commission also
provide oversight of the City’s
Citizen Involvement Program.
This position offers an
excellent opportunity to learn
how the implementation of
land use code takes place,
what must be done to change
codes, and the process of pub-
lic hearings.
The Budget Committee is
seeking two additional mem-
bers to replace vacancies cre-
ated as terms ended. This is
the group that helps guide the
fiscal future of the city by set-
ting spending guidelines.
For anyone with prior
budgeting experience who
wants to get involved, the
position is an ideal place to
serve Dunes City.
Community members inter-
ested in any of these volunteer
opportunities can stop by City
Hall, 82877 Spruce St. in
Westlake, or call 541-997-
3338 to obtain an application.
The application is also
available at the City’s website.
There is no cutoff date for
applications, however early
applicants may be appointed
as soon as the City Council
meeting at its next regularly
scheduled time, which is the
second Wednesday of every
month, beginning at 6 p.m.
Applicants will be notified
of the date the City Council
will consider their application
and should plan on attending
the meeting.
All applicants must reside
in Dunes City.

of Commissioners invites
applications from residents
interested in serving on the
port’s Budget Committee.

obtain an application from the
port office at 100 Harbor St. or
from the port’s website,
www.portofsiuslaw.com.
Applications will be accept-
ed until 5 p.m. Friday, March
30.

tered voters residing within the
Port of Siuslaw district. The
district boundary encompasses
most of the Siuslaw River
watershed, including the com-
munities of Florence and
Dunes City, and extending
upriver to Mapleton, Walton,
Lorane and Blachly.
The Budget Committee is a
standing committee of five
members that sits jointly with
the Port Commission to pub-
licly review and revise the
annual budget. The Budget
Committee approves the budg-
et and tax levy before being
passed to the Port Commission
to be adopted.

three-year terms which expire
on June 30.
