OBITUARIES
MILBRETT—Raymond
Arthur Milbrett, 94, of
Swisshome, died Feb. 6, 2018.
He was born Sept. 17, 1923,
in New Ulum, Minn., to
William and Elsie Milbrett.
Ray was the son of German
immigrants who settled on a
farm in Minnesota. He fol-
lowed
his
brother,
Eldor, into
service dur-
ing
World
War II and
was assigned
to the 377th
I n f a n t r y.
Eldor was
Raymond
killed
in
Milbrett
action, after
which Ray’s brother, Marvin,
petitioned for Ray’s release to
help on the family farm.
Ray received an honorable
discharge in October of 1946
and returned to farming. He
married Betty Louise Mieloch
Milbrett on May 29, 1948, and
moved to Swisshome in 1956.
Ray was a very hard worker
whose priority was providing
for his family. He often worked
a shift as a lumberman and then
spent the rest of the day in the
woods picking huckleberry and
salal to help make ends meet.
He loved the woods and
enjoyed hunting, riding his
ATV 4-wheeler and working
the tractor on his small timber
parcel behind his home.
Ray and Betty were married
57 wonderful years, giving
them 10 children and more than
90 grandchildren, great-grand-
children and great-great-grand-
children.
His wife, Betty, and their
daughters, Janet Kilpatrick,
Terry Ulmer and Cheryl
Milbrett, preceded him in
death.
He is survived by one son,
Clay (wife Wendy) Milbrett of
Veneta; six daughters: Linda
Andrews (husband Ed) of
Mapleton, Marsha Chewning
(husband
Clayton)
of
Springfield, Marlene (husband
Larry) Cisneros of Grandview,
Wash., Laura Bernhardt (hus-
band Jerry) of Florence, Kelly
West of Springfield, and
Pamela
(husband
Jon)
Thompson of Florence.
A memorial service will held
Saturday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m., at
New Life Lutheran Church in
Florence.
Burns’s Riverside Chapel
Florence Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
STATLER—Anna Lorene
Statler, 65, of Mapleton, passed
away Feb.1, 2018.
Anna was born Sept. 17,
1952, in Springfield, Mo. She
moved with family to Mapleton
in 1963 and
attended
school,
where she
met her hus-
band.
She was
married to
Terry Lee
of
Anna Statler Statler
Mapleton
Feb.28, 1968. They had three
sons: Mike Statler (Hiromi) of
Oak Harbor, Wash., Douglas
Statler of Mapleton and Lester
Statler, who preceded her in
death.
Anna will lovingly be
remembered by her husband,
Terry; her parents, Lester and
Wanda Reeves; sisters Sherrie
Marshall (Dave) and Linda
Chaney Ziemer (Aaron), all of
Mapleton; one brother, Melvin
Reeves (Peggy) of Springfield,
Ore; brother- and sister-in-
laws, Jess Young (Evelyn) of
Salem Ore. and Jane Robinson
(Clarence) of Orlando Fla.;
IMPOUNDMENT
along with many nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
Ann enjoyed her quiet life in
Mapleton with family. She
loved gardening and had
numerous rose bushes. She also
raised a small flock of chickens
whose eggs she gathered daily
to share with family and
friends.
Two of her favorite things to
do were watch old westerns
and cut firewood with Terry.
Anna was laid to rest
Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Restlawn
Memorial Gardens in Salem
Ore.
She will be missed by many.

SIMONS—Clara
M.
Simons, 83, of Springfield and
formerly of Florence, passed
away Feb. 9, 2018, at
Brookdale Buck Creek.
She was born in Springfield
on Oct. 31, 1934, the daughter
of Clarence E. and Bertha M.
(Miller) Kramer.
She attended grade school at
St. Bernard and graduated from
Catholic Central in 1952. She
worked as a legal assistant for
21 years in Springfield,
Columbus, Miami, Florida and
St. Croix Virgin Islands.
When she returned to
Dayton, she was employed in
and nephews: Debbie (John)
Ferris, Barb (Dan) McBlane
and Roger (Phyllis) James.
She was preceded in death
by her two sisters, Elsie
Shanahan and Dorothy James;
and one brother, Clarence E.
Kramer, Jr.
Her family would like to
thank the staff and nurses at
Brookdale Buck Creek and
Brookdale Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday
in St. Raphael Church.
Visitation will be one held in
Conroy Funeral Home on
Saturday, Feb. 17, beginning at
9 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Bernard
Cemetery. Memorial donations
may be made to St. Vincent de
Paul Society or St. Raphael
Church.

administrative assistant to the
director.
She retired in 1994 and
moved to Florence in 1996.
She spent several years travel-
ing between Florence and Hot
Springs Village, Ark.
In 2005, she moved back to
Florence as she wanted to live
where she had the ocean and
beach.
She did a lot of traveling
with her dear friend and com-
panion, Joe Bugner.
She volunteered at St. Mary-
Our Lady of the Dunes Church
in Florence. Each year, she
worked for the annual Relay
for Life and was the co-chair
for the registration committee.
Survivors include her nieces
