son that was in the Marines,”
said Osborne. “Two of my
nephews have served overseas
in the military in recent years.
“I feel the mission of the
Oregon
Coast
Military
Museum is important to our
community, and I want to be

S IUSLAW V ISION
ANNOUNCES NEW TEAM
The Siuslaw Vision is a community-led,
regional effort to improve the quality of life
for local residents, and while it remains an
effort conceived and driven by volunteers, a
recent grant award has enabled them to hire
part-time assistance.
The newly announced vision coordinator
is Stephanie Sarles. Sarles and her husband
relocated to Florence in 2009 from Dallas,
Texas.
“We came to the Oregon Coast for the
ocean, the trees and the beautiful cool sum-
mer weather,” Stephanie said. “We’ve
stayed in Florence because we quickly fell
in love with the people and the community.”
Sarles has more than 20 years experience
in communications, publications produc-
tion, marketing and public relations. She
has worked in higher education, as a retreat
center assistant here on the coast, and most
recently as a freelance editor and project
manager.
The administrative assistant is Russ
Pierson, better known as Dean at the LCC
Florence Center.
“As a fan of the Vision and a founding
Vision Keeper volunteer, I am happy to
offer my experience, and my predilection as
a chronic note-taker and researcher, to help
move the Vision forward,” Pierson said.
The IT support tech is Daniel Okonski.
Okonski and his fiancée, Jo Beaudreau,
moved from Chicago to Florence in 2014 to
run the art supply store, BeauxArts Fine Art
Materials. There they are involved with the
needs of the community every day.
“I’m glad to be helping the Vision in any
way I can,” Okonski said. “There are so
many great things happening in the commu-
nity, and it’s refreshing to see so many peo-
ple talk about the future and be excited
about it.”
Okonski’s work will include oversight of
RiverCal.org, the recently introduced com-
munity calendar launched by the Vision and
available to everyone in the area.
The Vision is our region’s roadmap to a
bright and common future, an effort “of the
people, by the people, for the people,” and
it represents literally thousands of hours of
conversation with hundreds and hundreds
of interested and engaged community mem-
bers from Florence, Dunes City, Mapleton,
Swisshome, Deadwood-and all parts in
between.
The Vision imagines a better life in the
near future, with a focus on the people in
our region-working people, happy people,
connected people, active people, educated
people and creative people.
The Vision helps to connects the dots-the
bright lights of visionary people, good work
and great ideas in these areas throughout the
region-and supports the hopes and dreams
of our residents living all along the Siuslaw
River and its environs.
Multiple projects are underway within
each of these spheres that connect volun-
teers, businesses and organizations of every
kind for our common good.
