on a True Story” (also known as BoaTS), on Saturday,
March 25th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 25th at a 2:00
p.m. matinee. Told by the people who really experienced
them, BoaTS is a gathering of storytellers who retell their
unbelievable tales in front of a live audience.
It’s happened to all of us at one time or another - the
“you can’t make this stuff up” moment. When the storm
is over and you recount the details, no one can believe
that it really happened that way. But it did, because
you lived it. Those are the stories that make up a pre-
sentation of BoaTS.
The Last Resort Players team is currently seeking
story submissions for BoaTS for the March show. Sto-
rytellers will be asked to tell their story directly to the
audience, rather than to read it, and are encouraged
to practice their storytelling in advance. Stories may
be included in a book of BoaTS that will be published
later this year as a fundraiser for the Florence theater
organization.
If selected, each storyteller will be given 5 to 8
minutes to set-up, arc and close their storyline. Lec-
tures, stereotypes and stand-up comedy routines are
discouraged. True stories with high stakes, unusual
circumstances, moments of epiphany and real charac-
ters make great stories for “Based on a True Story.”
A new website has been created to begin logging past
story contributions and answer questions for future
B.o.a.T.S. storytelling presentations at www.lastresort-
boats.com
Submissions and information can be directed to the
creator of BoaTS, Jennifer Connor at lastresortboats@
gmail.com.
