SHIBA seeking counselor volunteers to assist seniors
For anyone who likes prob-
lem solving and helping peo-
ple, consider becoming a
SHIBA volunteer.
The Senior Health Insurance
Benefits Assistance program
(SHIBA) has trained volun-
teers to help people with
Medicare make health insur-
ance decisions.
This
program
saves
Medicare beneficiaries money
by making sure they receive all
possible benefits.
These free services are avail-
able to people with Medicare,
their family members, care-
givers and advocates.
SHIBA volunteers do not
sell insurance — they educate.
Become a SHIBA certified
counselor by calling 541-736-
4536 or by applying online at
Oregon.gov/DCBS/shiba/vol-
unteers/Pages/volunteer.aspx.
Counselors must complete
an application and go through a
training program, which
includes a two-day training on
March 6 and 7.
