CARPENTER —Ellen
“Eleanor” Jannett Carpenter
(Womer), 92, of Florence,
passed away peacefully Dec.
19, 2017, with family mem-
bers at her side.
Eleanor was born Jan. 1,
1925, in Corvallis, Ore., the
second daughter to Paul and
Tressie Womer. Her parents
owned and operated Womer’s
Variety Store in Florence in
both downtown and on
Highway 101 until 1958.
Eleanor graduated from
Siuslaw High School and was
the Salutatorian. She was a
member of the Civic Theatre
and also loved square dancing
and playing canasta.
She married Joseph Hamlet
in 1942 and, together, they
had five children who survive
her: Gary Hamlet (wife,
Kathy), Roger Hamlet (wife
Carol), Ronald Hamlet (wife
Erin), Denise Herron, Paul
Hamlet (wife Kay).
Eleanor is also survived by
several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, and one
great-great-grandchild.
Eleanor loved gardening,
knitting and camping with
family and friends. Her love
of family was always present
in her everyday life. Even as
her later years were stricken
with
Dementia
and
Alzheimer’s, she still loved to
have family and friends with
her.
She is preceded in death by
her parents; her sister,
Jacqueline McPherson of
Lebanon; her first husband,
Joseph Hamlet; and her sec-
ond husband, Swin Carpenter.
Graveside service were
held Friday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m.
at the Pacific Sunset
Memorial Park Cemetery in
Florence.
A celebration of her life
will be planned at a later date.
Donations can be made to
the Evergreen Hospice House
in Albany, Ore.
