Community makes 447 dozen cookies for veterans
COURTESY PHOTO
O
n Dec. 18, Leo and Shirley Stapleton, their daughter Sheryl and grandsons Zackery and Cory delivered 447
dozen cookies (that’s 5,364 cookies!) to the Veterans at the Roseburg VA Hospital, along with lap robes, jeans
and various donated clothing items. The Ladies of Elks donated $500, which Leo (center, with grandsons) used
to purchase additional clothing that the Veterans requested. In addition, $50 was donated in Leo’s name because
he does so much for the Veterans. Leo is a veteran and being able to make this delivery is near and dear to his
heart. The cookies were made by the Ladies of Elks, the Rolling Elks, the Florence Quilt Guild, Band of Brothers,
Elks Lodge members and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. An extra thank you to Shirley Stapleton who made 100
dozen of the 447 dozen cookies. The veterans really look forward to the cookies and clothing and are deeply
appreciative of all that is done for them. We in turn thank them for their service to our country.
