will be held at Grocery Outlet
on Saturday, Nov.18, from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Hosted by local
businesswoman Cindy Wobbe,
this annual food drive aims to
fill the food bank’s pantries
with much needed canned,
boxed and frozen food items in
time for the holiday season.
Starting in 2000 and always
held the Saturday before
Thanksgiving, Wobbe matched
the public’s donations pound
for pound, resulting in more
than 80,000 pounds of dona-
tions over a 15-year span, until
she sold her restaurant.
In 2015, an anonymous
donor stepped in to continue
the sponsorship, matching
pounds with dollars.
“I’ve never asked who it is,”
Wobbe said. “I’m just deeply
grateful that someone stepped
in to help. Over 600 families in
our community rely on Food
Share to keep from going hun-
gry each month and this food
drive has been a godsend year
after year.”

This is the third Pounding
this same anonymous donor
has offered to match the total
poundage with funds.
An additional sponsor, Top
Hydraulics, has just announced
that it will also match the total
number of pounds donated.
“I’m thrilled for Food
Share!” Wobbe said. “Food
Share is facing a crisis right
now. Donations of food and
money are at a critical low, and
the need for services continues
Pounding, Food Share will
receive a match of $2. What a
wonderful and timely gift.”
Wobbe will be joined by
local radio personality Wayne
Sharpe of KCST Radio, who
has conducted a live radio
remote broadcast on location
every year since the beginning.
Grocery Outlet owner/opera-
tor Woody Woodbury will
mark specials throughout the
store of items most desperately
needed at the food bank and
plans to have extra staff avail-
able during the event to help
with pushing grocery carts,
loading boxes of canned foods
and ringing in customers at the
checkstands.
Last year’s event raised a
record 11,111 pounds of food,
and both Wobbe and Woodbury
expect an even larger turnout
due to two recent feature sto-
ries in the Siuslaw News high-
lighting Food Share’s immedi-
ate crises.
Grocery Outlet is located at
2066 Highway 101.
