Florence to host Roblan, McKeown for legislative talk
Sen. Arnie Roblan and Rep. Caddy McKeown will discuss transportation and education.
Education and transporta-
tion will be the key topics of a
town hall hosted by Sen. Arnie
Roblan, D-Coos Bay, and Rep.
Caddy McKeown, D-Coos
Bay, next weekend in
Florence.
The event is scheduled for 4
p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, in
the Bromley Room of the
Siuslaw Public Library, 1460
Ninth St., in Florence. The dis-
cussion will feature Oregon
Education Innovation Officer
and Oregon Department of
Education Interim Director
Colt Gill, in addition to
Oregon
Department
of
Transportation Region 2
Manager Frannie Brindle and
local legislators.
McKeown serves as co-
chair of the Joint Committee
on Transportation,
Preservation and
Modernization and Roblan is
the chair of the Senate
Committee on Education.
Both provide powerful voic-
es for the Oregon coast on
education, transportation and
numerous other topics in the
Oregon Legislature.
Gill was appointed as
Oregon’s first Education
Innovation Officer in 2016 and
recently was promoted to the
interim director role in the
Department of Education.
He has a 27-year history as
an educator in Oregon.
The town hall event is free
and open to the public.

This election involves
approximately 187,000 regis-
tered voters in Lane County.

Sheriff’s office to hold Search, Rescue volunteer open house
Lane County Search and
Rescue is currently recruiting
new volunteers. The program
is looking for individuals
experienced in outdoor activi-
ties with a positive attitude
who are community service
oriented. Volunteer members
must be willing and prepared
to be called out at all times of
the day or night, sometimes in
very inclement weather and
extreme conditions.
Being a Search and Rescue
Volunteer is a great way to
help your community and
Sheriff’s Office.
The mandatory first step in
joining is to attend one of three
informational open house
meetings. Following the meet-
ing, those who are interested
can pick up an application.
Applications will not be
accepted from individuals who
did not attend one of the meet-
ings. Those interested in
applying only need to attend
one of these meetings.
Open houses will take place
Saturday, Oct. 21; Thursday
Oct. 26; and Thursday, Nov. 2.
Each open house will take
place at 6 p.m. at the Lane
County
Public
Service
Building, 125 E. Eighth Ave.
in Eugene.
Applicants who attend one
of the Informational Meetings
listed above and are successful
in the application process will
be invited to attend Search and
Rescue 101, an in-depth train-
ing covering all aspects of
search and rescue, including
search techniques, land navi-
gation, tracking, rescue and
recovery, and first aid.
Search and Rescue 101 is
mandatory training for SAR
volunteers.

• Must be able to pass a
criminal background check.
