Property tax statements ‘Dive for a Cure’ goes deep for cancer fundraiser
now available online
Lane County taxpayers will
receive their 2017-2018 prop-
erty tax statements beginning
on
Monday,
Oct.
23.
Statements are available
online now, as well as infor-
mation about the county value
trends, levy changes, and indi-
vidual property tax account
information, at www.lane
county.org/AT.
The first payment is due on
Wednesday, Nov. 15.
Lane County Assessment
and Taxation collects property
tax on behalf of 83 separate
taxing districts, including
cities, schools, education serv-
ice districts, water districts,
rural fire districts, urban
renewal districts and other tax-
ing districts, such as park and
recreation, library and ambu-
lance districts.
The total property tax certi-
fied for all tax levies combined
in 2017-18 is $515.8 million.
This is approximately 4.1
percent more than in 2016.
The total amount of taxes
billed changes each year as a
result of the addition of new or
renewed local option and bond
levies, the expiration of local
option and bond levies, the 3
percent statutory increase in
Maximum Assessed Values
(MAV), the addition of new
properties to the tax roll, the
number of exemptions granted
and the number of properties
being taxed on their lower
market values instead of their
Measure 50 MAV.

SCUBA Divers from across the state made a trip to Lake Woahink on Saturday in support of the tenth annual 'Dive
for a Cure.' The event is organized by Eugene Skin Divers Supply and supported by Eugene Builders Supply. There
were more than 200 participants at the fundraiser. There was also a silent auction table of items donated by area mer-
chants, a free BBQ provided by Eugene's 'Burger on the Run' and a table of local and regional wines from vintners
across Oregon and Washington state. The event added more than $30,000 to the amount raised this year by divers for
the fight against Cancer, which now totals $57,000 for 2017.In the ten years of the 'Dive' more than $500,000 has been
donated to OHSU.
‘Free Lunch’ says goodbye to executive co-chair
The Free Lunch Program is
bidding a reluctant goodbye to
Executive Co-Chair Brenda
Schweitzer after five years
under her expert leadership.
Schweitzer, who has been an
active volunteer with the Free
Lunch Program for seven
years, is moving from
Florence. Her kindness and her
many hours of service will be
much missed.
The Free Lunch Program
provides a free meal of soup,
bread, desert and beverage
every Tuesday and Thursday
from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
at the Florence United
Methodist Church on the cor-
ner of Kingwood and Second
streets.
All are welcome to attend
and have lunch.
The program was begun
approximately 22 years ago by
the Florence United Methodist
Church and is now staffed by
volunteers from Florence
United Methodist Church, St.
Mary’s Catholic Church, St.
Andrew’s Episcopal Church,
Florence Christian Church and
Baha’i and Friends.
Past members have included
the Presbyterian Church of the
Siuslaw, Florentine Estate and
the Florence Kiwanis Club.
The program is administered
by a council of representatives
from each of the churches.
Cindy Orr takes on the posi-
tion of executive co-chair
vacated by Schweitzer. Sandy
Stecklair serves as co-chair for
finance.
Free Lunch encourages other
organizations and individuals
to become involved in cooking
and serving the lunches.

get involved, contact Orr at
