The Vikings (0-4) will take to the field for
the final game of the season this Friday, when
Siuslaw travels to Brookings-Harbor to take
on the Bruins (0-4).
Last week, the Vikings hosted the Lancers
of South Umpqua High School during the last
home game for Siuslaw’s five seniors: wide
receiver Ryan Lee, quarterback Jared Brandt,
wide receiver Patrick Hill, wide receiver
Trent Reavis and lineman Salvador Sierra.
The Lancers (3-1), currently tied for second
place with North Bend, had little trouble with
the Vikings, taking an early lead and allowing
only one trip across the goal line for Siuslaw
— provided by Reavis with blocking from
fellow senior Hill.
South Umpqua finished with the win, 54-7.
This Friday, the Far West League will fin-
ish the regular season, with Siuslaw and
Brookings-Harbor each hoping for a win to
end the season on.
Kick-off for Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m.
at the Bruins’ den.
Siuslaw senior wide receiver Trent Reavis
approaches the end zone to provide the
Vikings with their only touchdown against
the Lancers last Friday.

In a rare Saturday afternoon game,
the Sailors hosted Horizon Christian
for what amounted to a tune-up game
for this Friday’s chance at the
Mountain West League Special District
TO PLAY FOR TITLE
3 title — and the state play-offs.
“We actually had kind of a slow
start,” Mapleton coach Jeff Greene said
of Saturday’s opening quarter. “Our
expectations have gone up a few notch-
es this season because of the potential
we have, so this was an opportunity to
explain that we can’t come into
Friday’s game like that.”
Despite a slow start, the Sailors still
managed to get on the scoreboard with
a little over 4 minutes remaining in the
first quarter, on a 7-play drive that
ended with a 52-yard carry by junior
Evan Moso — followed by a conver-
sion from freshman JJ Neece. It would
be the first of 7 conversions and 9 trips
into the end zone for Mapleton.

Olalla Reservoir has
been stocked with about
100 surplus summer steel-
head from the Siletz Falls
trap, this season. These fish
get fairly active in the lake
and offer a unique fishing
experience.
Once in the lake they are
considered “trout” and do
not require a Combined
Angling Tag. Anglers are
reminded, however, that
only one trout per day over
20 inches may be retained,
and these fish will almost
all be in that size range.
Mid Coast lakes been
stocked with trout through-
out the spring. Trout stock-
ing is over until the fall but
there still should be fish
around to catch. Water
temps are great and fish
should be hungry.

Fall Chinook angling
continues and fishing is
picking up in tidewater.
Trout season continues
with some nice cutthroat
around. Remember the
limit on streams and rivers
is two per day over 8-inch-
es.
