Spirituali-Tea to celebrate Baha’i Holy Day Free classes on New Testament continue
On Monday, Oct 16, begin-
ning at 6:30 p.m., the public is
invited to join a group that
enjoys finding the common
grounds in diverse spiritual
thoughts and paths.
This year, in mid October,
the Báhá’ís of Florence will be
holding the 200th year anniver-
sary of the Birth of
Bahá’u’lláh. The Holy Day
mark the happiest and most
festive time for Bahá’is, and
the Baha’i community is invit-
ing friends, neighbors and
acquaintances to take part in
the special celebration.
The gathering will end at 8
p.m. with prayers for the
requests left in the Prayer Pole
in the garden of the Florence
Playhouse and those shared by
the group.

being taught by Joel
Marks, from 6:30 to 8
p.m., each Thursday
night through Nov. 16
at the LDS Church at
the corner of Munsel
Lake and North Fork

Halloween
is celebrated
Rev. Rick Davis has
served as minister of the
Unitarian Universalist
Congregation of Salem for
the past 25 years.
On Sunday, Oct. 15, from
10 to 11 a.m., Rev. Davis will
be speaking for the first time
at the Florence Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship.
His topic will be: “Why
Do We Celebrate
Halloween?”
Davis is a graduate of
Emory University’s Candler
School of Theology. He
serves on the board of the
Unitarian Universalist
Buddhist Fellowship and is
currently the longest serving
active UU minister in the
Pacific Northwest.
The UU Fellowship,
87738 Highway 101 (at
Heceta Beach Road), is
wheelchair accessible. Each
service concludes with
refreshments and a dialogue
circle to explore the ques-
tions that come up during
each service.

My husband Dave and I were both born
and raised in Springfield, Oregon. We grad-
uated from Thurston High School. Dave
and I married in June of 1979 and moved
to Florence two months later. Dave man-
ages and works on the family timber farm
outside of Springfield as well as working in
construction.
We enjoy spending time with our grown
children. Bryce and Carly live on the family
farm in Springfield while Trent and Jenna
continue to live here in Florence. In July,
Trent and Jenna married, so it is official,

I have another daughter! As a family, we

enjoy target practice, trap shooting, riding
quads and bowling.
I began working at the Siuslaw News in February 2003. I am in the
sales department as a Marketing Associate. I enjoy getting to know my
clients and helping them with their advertising needs.

Chantelle Meyer is the features editor at
Siuslaw News, where she formats, edits and
creates the special features and editions of
the twice-weekly Florence-area newspaper.
She enjoys writing stories about economic
development, events around town and the
fascinating people who make up the Siuslaw
Region. She loves the creativity she gets
to use daily and the chance to feature her
own and the editorial staff’s writings and
photographs.
Her main goal is to live a creative life,
and she can definitely say she is.
When not working, Chantelle likes to
read, write and draw, as well as volunteer
with local community groups, dress in cos-
tume and continue to explore this area she
calls home.
She has an MFA in Children’s Literature
and looks forward to publishing her books
in the future.
